Obituary

Frances Carolyn Trice Barrett passed away December 18, 2012 in Corpus Christi, Texas with family by her side after a hard-fought battle with cancer.  She was born January 2, 1932 in Little Rock, Arkansas to parents Pearl Montgomery Trice and Matthew Anderson Trice. Frances graduated with a BA from Henderson State Teachers College in Arkadelphia, Arkansas in 1952 and began a 33-year teaching career with positions in Arkansas and Texas, including the Rio Grande Valley and Corpus Christi.  She taught 7 th and 8 th grade English for the Corpus Christi Independent School District and enjoyed sharing her passion for literature...


Frances Carolyn Trice Barrett passed away December 18, 2012 in Corpus Christi, Texas with family by her side after a hard-fought battle with cancer.  She was born January 2, 1932 in Little Rock, Arkansas to parents Pearl Montgomery Trice and Matthew Anderson Trice.



Frances graduated with a BA from Henderson State Teachers College in Arkadelphia, Arkansas in 1952 and began a 33-year teaching career with positions in Arkansas and Texas, including the Rio Grande Valley and Corpus Christi.  She taught 7th and 8th grade English for the Corpus Christi Independent School District and enjoyed sharing her passion for literature and knowledge of the English language with her students, several of whom have kept in contact throughout the years.



Frances was a member of the National Education Association, the Texas State Teachers Association and the Texas Retired Teachers Association.  She was also a member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma and Beta Sigma Phi Sororities and the Delta Kappa Gamma Society.



Frances cherished the time she spent with family and friends.  She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, niece, and granny. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart and brought her great joy.  Frances spent many hours reading stories, playing games, baking goodies, collecting seashells, and tossing footballs with them.  She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched.



Frances was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Stephen Humphrey Barrett and her sister, Norma Trice Elkins.



She is survived by her daughters Kelly Garza and Kim Armstrong, son-in-law Mike Armstrong and grandchildren:  Cameron Armstrong, Jillian Armstrong, Stephen Armstrong, Matthew Garza, and Nicole Garza.  Frances is also survived by her brother-in-law, Clark Elkins, and brother, William Trice.



A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the First United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2012.  The family requests that memorial gifts be made to the .
