Frances Boyd Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 30, 2012.

Frances Arline Boyd passed away peacefully in Odessa, Texas on 28 December 2012 at the age of 91.
Frances was born in Wooster City, Ohio, on July 2, 1921. She graduated from Creston High School in 1939. She earned a Degree in Elementary Education from Kent State University in 1942 and then taught 2nd grade in Ritman, Ohio. Frances attended Garret Theological Seminary on the campus of Northwestern University and later got a job with the Methodist Church in Ada, Oklahoma. After a stint as Director of Christian Education in Oklahoma City she moved to Lubbock, Texas where she met her future husband whom she would be married to for 54 years during a youth retreat for the Methodist Church in Cita Canyon. She went on to become Director of Education at the First Methodist Church of Lubbock and University Methodist Church of Austin, Texas.
Frances was a devoted mother and wife who cared deeply about her family and always put them first. She was also a devoted follower of the Methodist Church. She had a kind heart and a sweet, calm spirit about her that inspired all people who met her. She made her plants flourish and thrive with her loving care of them and she was an avid bird watcher. Frances loved to write, producing many community journals and children's stories.
Frances married Claude in Austin, Texas in 1955 and then went on to enjoy traveling, living and working all over the world with her husband and family. She was a hard working decorated servant leader taking every possible opportunity to volunteer for charitable and impoverished community causes everywhere Claude was stationed including Pakistan (where three of her children were born), Chile, El Salvador, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Panama, and Bolivia.
Frances is predeceased by husband Dr. Claude Collins Boyd, father Roy Haley, mother Edith Dennis, brother Leroy Haley, and granddaughter Germaine Surgeon.

The Christmas card was just returned today and I knew the possibility of Frances' passing was probably a reality.
What a wonderful life to celebrate, along with your dad. Since we lived across the hall in Panama, we have kept in touch.
My thoughts are with all of you. Meade and I send our condolences.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

When I think of family friends, first to mind are always Claude and Frances Boyd, who, truth be told always felt a lot more like family than friends. It's quite a blessing to have the memory of a recent conversation with Frances - still the sweet, loving woman that I first met 50 years ago. Thank you Kim.
