Mrs. King was married for 65 years to Franklin King Jr., who died in 2005. They raised five children in their 1780 farmhouse and through the years they also nurtured horses, cattle, goats, pigs, sheep, chickens, dogs and cats on their small farm.
A lover of nature and the outdoors, Mrs. King relished working in her flower and vegetable gardens, and liked nothing better than to produce fresh food for the dinner table and fresh-cut flowers to beautify her home. She also was a talented horsewoman, a tennis player, a duck hunter, a fisherman, an enthusiastic traveler and an accomplished chef and hostess. She kept doing many of these activities well into her eighties.
Outside of home, Mrs. King had had an extraordinary network of friends and admirers in the Sherborn community and beyond. An avid reader, she was a trustee of the Sherborn Library and a volunteer there for more than 25 years.
Born in New Jersey on Sept. 28, 1922, Mrs. King grew up with five siblings in Morristown, NJ. She graduated from the Westover School in Connecticut and was the class secretary for many years.
She is survived by her five children: Louise K. Cook and her husband Warren of Kingfield, ME; Franklin King III and his wife Margaret Pantridge of Needham, MA; Dorothy K. Whittemore and her husband Henry of Readfield, ME; Philip C. King and his wife Patsy of Southport, CT; and Margaret M. King and her husband Steven McFarland of Huntsville, Utah. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Nina, Bunge, Franklin, Natty, Katie, Sam, Philip and Lucy; two great-grandchildren, Birken and Anders, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Mrs. King's children would like to express gratitude to friends and neighbors for the love and support they gave their mother.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday August 11 at 11 am at Saint Dunstan's Church, 18 Springdale Ave., Dover, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of the Sherborn Library, 4 Sanger St., Sherborn, MA 01770.

"Dear Nick and Margaret, We were all so sorry to hear that your mother passed away so recently. She sounds like a woman after my own heart, with 5 children..." Barbara Foster (Needham, MA)
