Faith, Family and Flowers….These were just some of the life tenets which sustained Frances Molnar Matters through 96 years of a life joyously and gratefully lived, until her recent passing on March 22, 2014. Born on March 16, 1918, in Buffalo, N.Y. to Hungarian parents Louis and Kathleen Holovics who came to America for the chance of a better life, Fran took every advantage of this. Born on March 16, 1918, in Buffalo, N.Y. to Hungarian parents Louis and Kathleen Holovics who came to America for the chance of a better life, Fran took every advantage of this. Growing up with her seven brothers and sisters on a farm in Eden, N.Y. and having lived through the Great Depression, Fran knew both the meaning of hard work and what was to be valued in life, and was grateful for every opportunity. Walking to school every day, she worked so hard that she earned a scholarship which, owing to the family's proud but financially limited means, she could not accept. Never one to let life's disappointments deter her, she later obtained her CPA license through a home study program while still a full-time mother, wife and employee at Dunlop Tires, and while maintaining a garden of flowers and vegetables befitting her life-long gift for growth.
Having spent most of her life in Buffalo, Fran and her first husband Jim, moved to Tallahassee in 1986 where her zest for life and love of people created a whole new network of friends of all different ages and backgrounds who loved to spend time with this positive, caring individual. After Jim's death, Fran again became a wife, to Wally Matters, an old family friend, and their trips across the country and world began a new phase of adventure. Fran was also a 27-year cancer survivor who gave support and comfort to others going through this struggle. As an active member of St. Louis Catholic church and formerly of St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church, her Church family also brought her much peace, fellowship, and spiritual growth. Just before her passing, Fran began speaking to her siblings and parents who are gone. We are very grateful for this end-of-earthly-life gift, and that family was there to greet her.
Frances is survived by her only natural child, Frances Kochan and her also cherished son-in-law William Kochan. She is also survived by much-loved step-children Sharon Edminston and Marcia Konieczka and son-in-law Paul. She also leaves her example to grandchildren Philip Kochan and Anne Bozik and husband Todd. Her grandchild Philip, provided unending care and devotion to Fran in these last months for which we are most grateful. Fran also leaves behind grandchildren Stacy and Rue Silva, Alan and Karen Konieczka, Cindy and Keith Aithken and Jeff Canale as well as great-grandchildren Christopher and James Bozik, Michael and Lauryn Konieczka, Kyle and Ellise Silva, Shawna and Crystal Aithken and Vanessa, Michele and Nichole Canale. Fran is also survived by many, many other family members and friends to whom we are grateful, for filling Fran's life with the joy and companionship which provided her such happiness.
Fran was a strong, rare individual who was a credit to her upbringing, her strong family heritage and to enjoying life to the fullest. A Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 26 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Louis Catholic Church. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 25 at Culley''s Meadowwood Funeral Home Timberlane Road.
