- Francesca E. Walsh ("Kiki"), 89, died peacefully at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth on November 18, 2012, after a long illness.
She was born in Portland, the daughter of fireman Robert J. Walsh and Florence Nicholson Walsh. She resided in Portland her whole life, living in the Woodfords area, and graduated from Deering High School in 1941. She also was a long-time parishioner of St Joseph's Church.
Francesca worked in the retail business, first employed by Filene's on Congress Street and then by AH Benoit Company for decades. She worked in the boys department and also outfitted Boy Scouts all over the state of Maine for years.
Kiki was an avid bowler, accumulating multiple trophies during her lifetime, and she also enjoyed ice skating as she always led an active life. Kiki would never pass up an opportunity to go to craft fairs and out to lunch with her sisters and nieces. She also loved the beach, especially going on trips to Florida with the family and visiting relatives on Long Island, Maine. Kiki always enjoyed family gatherings, showing up with her famous chocolate chip cookies and mince pie for the holidays.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Robert Walsh Jr. and sister Sally Nappi. She is survived by a sister Dorothea Walsh; a sister Alice Stivaletti and her husband Jerry, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A period of visitation for Francesca and her family will be held this Monday, November 26, 2012 from 5 to 7 PM at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, ME. A 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial for Francesca will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 673 Steven's Ave., Portland, ME on Tuesday, November 27th.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Sedgewood Commons for their kind and loving care of Kiki over the past 4 years during her illness, words cannot express our thanks to all of you!
