BREWSTER, MA – Francis O. "Frank" Abbey, 90, of East Brewster, passed away peacefully at Liberty Commons in Chatham on August 27th, 2010. Frank is survived by his wife, Marion Abbey of the Victorian in Chatham, by his brother Ronald Abbey of Tavares, Florida and by sons Dennis of Charlotte, N.C. and Robert of Riverside, RI.

Born on December 2, 1919, in London, England, Frank was one of two children born to Robert and Lilian Abbey. The family crossed the ocean to America, entering through Ellis Island when Frank was nine years old.

Frank graduated from Peekskill High School in N.Y. where he was a stand-out running back on the school's football team. Frank worked at the Bowery Savings Bank in New York City, and it was there that he would meet his future wife, Marion. They were married on Valentine's Day, 1942. Frank served in the military with honor in WWII as a photographer in the Army Signal Corps rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant, returning to the bank after the war. He would later enroll in banking courses at Northwestern University in Chicago. Frank and Marion raised their family in Katonah, N.Y.

He was the father of three sons, Dennis of Charlotte, N.C., Robert of Riverside, R.I .and John (deceased). Frank worked in New York City until his retirement. A lifelong passion for fishing, gardening and golf led to purchasing Atlantic Cottage on Ellis Landing in East Brewster, MA and later, a year round home just a mile away. Frank fished the bay, the ponds of Nickerson State Park and trout streams in Montana and Vermont until well into his seventies. In addition to these activities, Frank was also a ham radio operator with the call sign of WA2SVY. He was a 50-year member of the Katonah Fire Department and an active member of the Orleans Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, brother and children, Frank is survived by four grandchildren, Emily Abbey of New Haven, Ct., Bonnie Abbey-Warn of Dedham, MA, Gretchen Biedrzycki of Charlotte, N.C. and Gregory Abbey of New York City. He has six great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Orleans Methodist Church.
