Francis Matthew Beitzel, age 93, passed away at home on March 29, 2014. Francis grew up in Libertyville, Illinois. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II at Laughlin Field in Del Rio, Texas where he met his future wife, Josephine Pedrotti. They married in Del Rio and later moved to Waukegan where they raised their family. He worked at Tractomotive (which later became Fiat Allis) in Deerfield for 31 years retiring in 1979. Francis Matthew Beitzel, age 93, passed away at home on March 29, 2014. Francis grew up in Libertyville, Illinois. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II at Laughlin Field in Del Rio, Texas where he met his future wife, Josephine Pedrotti. They married in Del Rio and later moved to Waukegan where they raised their family. He worked at Tractomotive (which later became Fiat Allis) in Deerfield for 31 years retiring in 1979. He was active in Immaculate Conception Parish and, after retirement, in St. Anastasia Parish where he generously donated his outstanding and wide-ranging handyman skills for many years. In 2004 he received the Christifideles Award from the Archdiocese of Chicago for his dedication in giving of his time and talents to the church. Francis was a devoted family man who had a special connection with his young grandchildren and passed on his handyman skills to many of them as they grew up. Later as great grandchildren came along he earned the title "Grandpa Great". He was and always will be deeply loved by all his family.
Francis is survived by his wife, Josephine, his children, Christine (Roger) Harrison of Waukegan, Carolyn (Daniel) Koivula of Olympia, Washington, Janet (James) Neal of Waukegan, Joan (James) Doubek of Waukegan and Timothy (Vicki) Beitzel of Corpus Christi, Texas, 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and his brother, Raymond. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Catherine, his son, Daniel, his sister Mary and brothers John, Bill, James and Robert.
Visitation will take place at St. Anastasia Church, 624 Douglas Avenue in Waukegan on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 beginning at 9:30 AM followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 AM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Vitas Hospice, 580 Waters Edge, Suite 100, Lombard, IL 60148.
