Francis "Fran" "The Captain" "Mayor" Gentile, 72 of Kensington died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 30, 2016. He was born in Hartford, the son of Mary (DeMarco) Gentile and the late Edward Gentile.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his devoted wife, Ellen (Perry) Gentile, his beloved children: daughter Tara Bialek and her husband, TJ Bialek, and son David Gentile and his fiancée Kinga Kostaniak.
He also leaves behind his precious grandchildren: Layna, Hunter and Cade; his sister Donna Gentile and brother Stephen Gentile and his wife, Patricia Gentile; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him, as he touched the lives of everyone he met. There is no person that met The Captain, that didn't instantly call him a friend.
To briefly describe Fran is nearly impossible as there are no words to fully describe a man that was loved by everyone who knew him. Fran was a model husband and father which was shown through his work ethic, selflessness towards others and unwavering love for his children. He was a true gentleman who inspired everyone he encountered as he was a kind hearted soul with a selfless need to help others.
Fran proudly served with the US Navy and retired from CL&P after 38 years of service. After retirement, Fran took up boating and spending time with his family and friends. He stayed young by swimming daily at the YMCA.
Calling hours will be Thursday, August 4, 2016 from 4:00PM to 7:00 PM at New Britain Memorial Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave, New Britain. I'm so sorry for your loss. Fran, Stephen & I were friends at Nathan Hale Junior High... In the same home room... I remember him as a kind, mild manner young gentleman. Thank you for sharing the wonderful gallery of photos. I can see Fran led a life full of close family and friends and loved his grand children. There are some people who hold a special memory in your heart... Fran was one of them.

Spent two years in the Navy with Fran and his brother Stephen (USS Lookout) I'm truly sorry to hear of his passing.
Two years ago, we were pleased to have Fran and Ellen to our home in Old Lyme for lunch and reminiscing. We knew how much they loved the boat at the marina and were looking forward to more visits.
Unfortunately we were not aware of Fran's passing in time to come to his wake.
Our sincere thoughts and prayers go to the entire Gentile family.

Dear Entire Gentile Family, My heart is breaking for all of you. Fran and I were GREAT friends during High School and many years later spending time at my parents house in Old Saybrook. I was fortunate to have married a very kind and caring person just as Fran was. I did lose him twenty years ago so I truly empathize with the grief you all are enduring. My prayers are with you all.

Fran Gentile was a fellow worker ,
UNION brother and TRUE friend. He
is one of the the reasons CL&P
Line employees stuck TOGETHER
and protected one another (each other)
in our contract talks with the company.
A man's man , who was respected.
May Fran rest in peace. He will be missed.
