FRANCIS "FRANK" LEONARD PHILLIPS Mason, MI Francis "Frank" Leonard Phillips age 89 passed away September 29, 2013, at Haven of Rest in Williamston, MI. He was born to William Henry and Eva Mae (Elliott) Phillips on June 6, 1924 near Fowlerville. He graduated from Fowerville High School in 1941 and enlisted in the US Army Air Corp. He honorably served with the 555th US Army Air Corp Signal Air Warning, Co. A in WWII and celebrated his 20th birthday on the beaches of Omaha. He also fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Francis "Frank" Leonard Phillips age 89 passed away September 29, 2013, at Haven of Rest in Williamston, MI. He was born to William Henry and Eva Mae (Elliott) Phillips on June 6, 1924 near Fowlerville. He graduated from Fowerville High School in 1941 and enlisted in the US Army Air Corp. He honorably served with the 555th US Army Air Corp Signal Air Warning, Co. A in WWII and celebrated his 20th birthday on the beaches of Omaha. He also fought in the Battle of the Bulge. On September 12, 1928, he married Wanda Marie Davis in Fowlerville. Frank worked for General Electric for 35 years, Michigan Brass and Electric for 5 years and Standard Electric for 2 years. He was a life member of VFW Post 7309 and a member of American Legion Post 148 in Mason and helped organize the Memorial Day and Veterans Day parades. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited for years. Frank and his wife served as Community leaders for Alaiedon 4-H as well as project leaders. He also umpired many 4-H softball games. He loved fishing, hunting, carpentry and watching his grandchildren play sports.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Burton Phillips; sisters-in-law, Norma (Davis) Kelley and Nathalie (Davis) Conner; brothers-in-law, Keith Conner and Roger Davis; and daughter-in-law, Wendy Diane (Scripter) Phillips.
He is survived by his wife and three children; Kathleen (Larry) Minnis, Richard (MJ) Phillips, and Randall Phillips; 8 grandchildren, Jeffrey (Christina) Minnis, Daniel (Sarah) Minnis, Erin (Lance) Graf, Kristin Phillips, Traci Phillips, Scott Phillips, Nicole (Jeff) Blackmore, and Paul Phillips; 9 great-grandchildren, Tyler and Reese Minnis, Cassa and Raegan Minnis, Ryker and Lottie Graf, Haylie and Kason Blackmore and Cooper Phillips; in-laws, Joy Phillips, Jean (William) Northrop, Howard (Millie) Kelley and Frank (Marilyn) Davis; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, October 3 at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Ball-Dunn Chapel, 621 S. Jefferson, Mason, MI. Interment will be in Leek Cemetery, Mason. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Frank's memory to the VFW Jean R. Anderson Post #7309, 1243 Hull Road, Mason, MI 48854.
