Frank Bravenec Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 10, 2017.

Frank Richard Bravenec, age 84, was born January 9, 1933 in Houston, Texas to Frank Charles and Betty Sustala Bravenec, and departed this world to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 9, 2017.

Frank was a 1951 graduate of Jefferson Davis High School in northeast Houston. He attended Rice University where he earned a BA in 1955 and BSEE in 1956, graduating with honors. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi and Sigma Tau National Engineering Honor Society, was a registered professional engineer, and Rice University Associate - Life Member.

Frank's 25-year career included various positions of increasing responsibilities at Welex, a Division of Halliburton Corp; Houston Instrument Corp; Houston Magnetics, a Division of AIC Corp; Graphic Arts Manufacturing Co; CRC – Automatic Welding, then returning to finish his career where it began, at Welex. Over the course of his career, Frank's creative engineering work earned him 18 patented inventions.

When Frank was not working, he restored a 1919 Ford Model 'T' and an antique pump organ. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, boating, fishing, gardening, reading, and home/auto repairs. Recently he stated he could fix anything, just not his own body. Frank had a fascination with science fiction, UFOs, and the NASA space programs and technologies.

Frank was an active member of Spring Branch Community Church where he served as deacon, he was a Camp Peniel board member, and also volunteered with Sonlight Ministries. He was a member of SPJST Lodge 88 and enjoyed attending the Houston Accordion Club meetings to hear Czech polkas and waltzes. He also enjoyed blue grass music.

Frank is preceded in death by his parents Frank Charles and Betty Sustala Bravenec, and daughter Patti Lynn Bravenec. Frank is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Margaret Jean Reznicek; son Richard Alan Bravenec and wife Mary; and daughter Phyllis Ann Bravenec. Grandchildren April Bravenec Hunter and husband Ryan; and Michael Bravenec.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff and workers of Kindred Hospice and CareWorks for the tender and loving services they provided during Frank's final days of infirmity.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Peniel, 6716 E. FM 1431, Marble Falls, TX 78654 in his honor (camppeniel.org), or to Bridgepoint Bible Church, 13277 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079 (bridgepointbible.org)

While I did not know your father is well as I would like to the few interactions showed a tender man willing to listen. I am thinking of you, your mother and your immediate family during this difficult time. Sorry I could not be there to support in a physical capacity!!!

I remember him as someone who would come and quietly fix something for Phyllis or just do whatever needed doing around church without a lot of fuss or even people noticing. He just did whatever needed doing and went on about life with such a sweet and gentle disposition.
My heart grieves for how painful it must have been to see him suffer, and I grieve for what this suffering has wrought in your lives or stories.. but I hope for something more, that your story is deeper, and that you know love more for having been through this gaspingly stunning time. I hope that you had sweet days with him. Know you are loved and prayed over very much.

While you will miss him terribly here on earth, I am glad to know that he is whole and very alive in the presence of our Savior! He is with other family, and my parents, too--I wonder if they are talking to each other or if they are all still just so awestruck at the wonders of heaven and the beauty of our God that they are just standing in His presence singing praise! I am praying strength and comfort and growth in faith right now for each of you still stuck on earth, along with me, serving while we wait for our turn to enter heaven. Love, Nancy Stewart

I will always remember Frankie as one of the most gentle, good-natured and godly men I have ever known. He will be missed for his easy humor and loving ways. One thing I learned early on after I became a Bravenec was that my husband and his brothers considered Frank to be not just a great cousin, but another brother. What a blessing Frank has been to this whole family. Our prayers and thoughts continue to be with all of you.

Frank was always smiling and a real smart person. I always appreciated his interest in the geanealogy of our family and all the effort he put into the research of our history. He was a gentle and kind man, and a good Husband and father. Frank was always one of my favorite cousins and will be dearly missed. My heart goes out to Jean and her children and grandchildren.

Frank & I sat side by side for many years at work. I was always amazed at his technical knowledge. Each project he worked on displayed his many skills & I was glad I was able to work with him.

Frank will surely be missed at our Sustala gatherings. We could always go to Frank for answers about our rich family history. He once told me of his recollection of going to my parents wedding in Chappell Hill - what a treasure that was for me. He was much admired by many. I am so sad that he will not be with us and know he will be greatly missed. He was a dear man. God bless him and his family.

As for a member in Christ family, death is not a period, its a comma. A temporary absence with the hope and knowledge that Christ promised that someday we all will meet again face to face. So we have hope, hope that is given to us by Jesus Christ. Brother Frank we wait for that day. Prayers for the family. Doug and JoAnn Jakubik

Uncle Frankie meant a lot to me all of my life. He always had a smile on his face when he would greet you. I thought of him as my kind, friendly, smart, and very special uncle. He meant a lot to me and my family. May God bless him and his family.
