Frank Edward (Ed) Freemole 87, of Sun Lakes, AZ passed away on January 18, 2014 with his family at his side. Ed was born on October 1, 1926 in Edgemont, SD. Ed was a veteran of the Korean War as well as serving in the National Guard. After the war, Ed worked as a brake man for CB&Q Railroad in South Dakota where he met his future wife, Verna Heyne. They were married on September 15, 1953, started a family and raised four children, eventually moving to Rapid City, SD for several years. The family then moved to Iowa in 1968 when Ed started a second career as a computer programmer. After a brief time in Ottumwa, the family relocated to Muscatine, Iowa where Ed was employed by Grain Processing Company until his retirement in 1988. Ed and Verna then moved to Sun Lakes, Arizona where there was year round sunshine which meant year round golf. Ed's passion in life was golf. Going all the way back to Edgemont when he helped design and build a course, golf was major part of Ed's life. Over the years, Verna, his children and his grandchildren have developed his love and appreciation for golf. Ed was a man of deep religious devotion. Ed and Verna became active members of St. Steven's Catholic Community in Sun Lakes and through the Church became very involved with St. Vincent DePaul. Ed will always be remembered as a good man with humor, wisdom and unconditional love. His legacy remains in the family he raised, the friends he made and the communities he served. Ed is survived by his wife of 60 years, Verna, of Sun Lakes, four children, Tim Freemole of Iowa, Jennifer Mahoney of Chandler, Brad Freemole of Phoenix, Carla Stark of California, their spouses, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mass will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., preceeded by the Rosary at 9:30 a.m., at St. Steven's Catholic Church, 24837 Dobson Road, Sun Lakes, Arizona followed by a luncheon at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to St. Vincent DePaul St Steven's Chapter.
