Frank Osteen Johnson, Sr. 96 of Columbus, Georgia died Sunday, June 08, 2014 at Gentiva Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Columbus on Tuesday June 10, 2014 at 2:00 PM with Dr. James D. Elder, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be Monday, June 9, 2014 from 5:00 until 7:00 in the evening at Striffler-Hamby, Columbus. Private interment will be in Parkhill Cemetery.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He had a sense of humor that made him a true delight to be around. His love of life was contagious. He loved the Lord, his family, and his country. He was the epitome of the "Greatest Generation". Frank served proudly during WWII as a flight officer.

Frank is preceded in death by his Mother, Gussie Osteen Johnson and his Father, Tom Johnson.

He met and married Mary Power Johnson in 1947. They were married for a few days short of 58 years. He then married a childhood sweetheart, Lydia Barr Langdon Johnson who tragically died one week later with complications from a broken hip.

Survivors include his children: Frank Osteen Johnson, Jr. and his wife, Patti Bobinger Johnson of Columbus; Louise Tolbert of Columbus, and Susan Keith of Blacksburg, VA. and Frank Morton Langdon, III and his wife, Genny Langdon, of Hayesville, NC. Brother, William Osteen Johnson and his wife, Faye Perry Johnson; grandchildren: David Christopher Tolbert and his wife Leeza Hildago Tolbert of Neptune Beach, FL.; Francis Elizabeth Johnson of Statesboro, GA. and Craig Hartley Johnson of Crested Butte, MT; great-grandchildren: Tylor and Bailey Johnson; Mack, Bret, and Mia Tolbert; Gladdy, Jasper, and Jet Trigg; many nieces, nephews, and a special friend, Lois McCosh.

Frank was a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbus, where he served many terms as a deacon and was currently a deacon emeritus. He also taught Sunday school and was an RA Leader. He loved working in the Food Closet each week, and was a proud member of the Scarbrough Sunday School Class. He participated in the monthly meeting of the Young In Heart Group and the Plus 50 group. In past years he enjoyed singing in the Senior Adult Choir, led by Ron Collins. When Ron began working with the International Fellowship, Frank did various tasks to help with this ministry.

He was a former active member of the Exchange Club and presently a member and former board member of the Executive Club. He worked for Tom Houston's in Columbus and Miami, Conley's Sport Center, later – Johnson's Sport Center and AFLAC.

Contributions can be made to: His beloved First Baptist Church of Columbus, P.O. Box 828, Columbus, GA 31902 and Gentiva Hospice of Columbus, 100 Brookstone Centre Parkway, Columbus, GA 31904.

We want to offer a special thank you to our church, who has walked with us through the years and to Gentiva Hospice, who has helped make a difficult time in Frank's life much easier. Clifford Christian and Lacie Ford are two very special care givers who loved and cared for Frank.
