Obituary

Franklin R. Barnes, 80, of 2035 Spruce Street in Martinsville, went home to be with the Lord on June 24, 2013 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. He was born in Henry County, October 27, 1932 to Thomas Franklin Barnes and Alma Jenkins Barnes. He served in the Army in the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, NC from 1950 to 1953. He was a supervisor for Sprint Telephone Company (Centel) and retired after 35 years of service. Franklin was a member of McCabe Memorial Baptist Church for over 50 years, where he was a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and worked with children's ministry. Franklin R. Barnes, 80, of 2035 Spruce Street in Martinsville, went home to be with the Lord on June 24, 2013 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. He was born in Henry County, October 27, 1932 to Thomas Franklin Barnes and Alma Jenkins Barnes. He served in the Army in the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, NC from 1950 to 1953. He was a supervisor for Sprint Telephone Company (Centel) and retired after 35 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Joan Barnes; two sisters, Nancy Coleman and Lelar Hollandsworth; one brother, Elwood Barnes.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joan Prillaman Barnes of the residence; three sons, Mitch Barnes and wife Brenda, and Danny Barnes, all of Martinsville, Jeff Barnes and wife, Teresa of Bassett; grandchildren, Scott Barnes and wife, Tamara, Amy Boyd, Magen and Haley Barnes; great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Kaylea Boyd and Brendon Barnes; brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy Barnes, Bobby and Phyllis Barnes, Homer and I'lla Barnes, Virgil and Mamie Barnes; sisters Betty Watkins, Patsy Cox, Blue Devoe and husband, Doug, Louise Jenkins and many nieces and nephews.

The Funeral service will be held Friday, June 28, 2013 at 2 PM at McCabe Memorial Baptist Church with burial in Roselawn Burial Park

The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 prior to the funeral at the church and other times at his home, 2035 Spruce Street in Martinsville.
Arrangements are by McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville.
