Falmouth - Fred Hamren, originally from Sewickley, Pennsylvania, passed away on Monday, June 16th in Falmouth, Maine. Born in Chicago on June 21st 1930, he attended the University of Michigan, graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering. It was there that he met the love of his life, Marcia. During college he left to serve 4 years in the Air Force, stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi. He married Marcia on September 4th, 1954, and they lived in Ann Arbor while he obtained his B.S.C.E. (Honors) in 1957.

From there his first job was at PDM Steel Company in Pennsylvania. Both of his children were born there, and then he was transferred to the California branch. In 1967 they all returned and settled in Sewickley, his primary residence for the next 43 years. During his 29 years at PDM, he was Manager of Sales, Marketing and eventually Director and VP of International.

He traveled extensively all over the world for the last 15 years of this job, eventually relocating his family to the London office that he had set up. After PDM, he worked as VP of Business Development and then Marketing for Schneider Services International – a government contract service company.

His last job was as a senior adviser at NANA Development Corporation, lasting until he was 78 years old. He started a company (AKIMA) for them with only one employee, himself, in 1995 and by 1999 it was named one of the top 25 8(a) businesses. He loved working for Native Americans; he always felt it was an honor. This company spawned multiple subsidiaries that now employ more than 10,000 people worldwide. He was Chairman of Contract Services of America, and held the record for not missing a monthly meeting in DC for the most years.

Tim (his nickname from childhood) was best known for his storytelling, his endless jokes, his compassion, his wisdom, his loyalty, and his big heart. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his daughter Leslie, her husband George and their daughter Ellie of Yarmouth. He is also survived by his son Christopher of Sewickley, Pennsylvania and his step-granddaughter Megan, of Auburn, Maine.

There will be a gathering to celebrate him at the Royal River Grillhouse in Yarmouth, Maine on Sunday 6/22 from 4-6. The funeral will be held at St. James Church in Sewickley, PA on 6/28 at 10:00 am, with a reception at The Edgeworth Club to follow. Please visit www.lindquistfuneralhome.com to view a video collage of Tim's life and to share condolences, memories and tributes with his family.

In lieu of flowers, please just cherish those you love and who love you, do the right thing, and pay all kindness forward.
