FRED WILLARD PATTY
Funeral services for Fred Willard Patty, 75, of Odessa will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Sherwood Church of Christ with Lynn Money & Mark Wilson officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Mr. Patty was born in George West, TX on October 8, 1936 to JW & Bonnie Patty and passed away on Monday, December 19, 2011 at the Hospice House of Odessa. He married Karon Lasater on February 23, 1973 in Brownwood, TX.
Fred grew up working the South Texas farms in the summertime and playing sports during the school year. Fred played left-end in football and ran the 440 & 880 yard dash in track. In May of '55 he graduated from A. C. Jones High School in Beeville, TX and entered the Army. During the years of '55-'58 he served his country in Germany as a signal core man. Dad had a great appreciation for history and Germany always held a fond place in his heart for WWII History.
After being honorably discharged from the Army, he attended Abilene Christian University from '58-'60 and worked at the Borden's Dairy as well as the Texas Hwy. Dept. while in Abilene, TX. In the mid-60's, Fred entered the oilfield of West Texas with SWACO of Dresser Industries. He would spend the rest of his life working the oilfields all across West Texas and SE NM while developing a number of great friendships. He was well respected for doing what he said he would do and had a tremendous work ethic. Fred never complained about any work he was asked to do and was very loyal to his employers.
He loved spending time at "the river" near Garner State Park and dreamed of having some land in the hill country for horses and grandchildren. Dad was an avid reader, history buff and great story teller. He loved to tell personal stories and share a laugh.
Fred Patty is survived by his wife, Karon Patty of Odessa, son, Sean Patty & wife Darla, (2) grandchildren, Sam & Zach of Midland, & brother, Max Patty of Portland, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Midland Christian School or Hospice House of Odessa.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
