Frederick Allison Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 12, 2013.

Frederick Carlisle Allison, Fred, went to his heavenly home on June 9, 2013 after a mighty battle with lung cancer.
Fred was born October 18, 1922, in Covington, VA to Clarence and Lavinia Allison. He graduated from Covington High School in 1940 and went on to the University of Alabama. When World War II erupted, he joined the U.S. Army, serving in the Aleutian Islands for most of it.
On October 19, 1949, Fred married the love of his life, Phyllis Farrow. Their 64-year marriage is an inspiration to the whole family. Fred and Phyllis had three children, Mark, Anne and Mead, who believe that their father was the best father who ever lived!
Fred was a member of the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, and had been both a deacon and an elder there. He worked for the City of Williamsburg from 1955-1985, serving in many capacities. He retired as Director of Public Works after a long civil engineering career.
For Fred, retirement meant more opportunities to hone his golf game and improve his painting abilities. His watercolors are treasured by family members. He was an avid reader and enjoyed visiting Civil War sites and reading about the war and its battles.
His sense of humor was well-known and the quips he left behind, his grandchildren lovingly refer to as "Granddadisms."
Mr. Allison was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Clarence Allison, his eldest son, Mark Allison, and his grandsons, Matt Scudder and Luke Foster. Fred is survived by his wife, Phyllis Allison; son, Mead (Victoria) Allison; daughter, Anne (Gary) Foster; daughter-in-law, Debra Allison; grandson, Jared Allison; granddaughters, Lisa (Matt) Willem, Tara (Jeremy) Aguilar, Julie (Mike) Foster and Elizabeth Allison; and three great-grandchildren (and one on the way.)
Services will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg on Friday, June 14 at 2:00 PM. Burial will be private at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
"And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes, there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." Revelation 21:4
…forever gone, but never forgotten.

Granddad, I am going to miss you dearly and it saddens me to know my son will never get to meet his great grandfather, but rest assured he will know everything about who you were. You were a true inspiration in my life and you will always live on in my memory. May you rest in peace. Love, your granddaughter Julie

Dearest Granddad, we will miss you dearly. I am so grateful to have been able to have my children know you even though we are so far away. Every trip to Virginia they looked forward to our visit with you and Nana. Your kind ways and witty nicknames made you one of a kind. We all love you and know you are at peace now. May you share many laughs in heaven with our special men that proceeded you.

I am sorry to learn of Mr. Allison's death. I worked with him from 1974 until he retired and we shared many laughes. His nickname for me was Grandma because he thought I was too young to wear long dresses. R. I. P. Mr. Allison.
