Obituary

Frederick William Altemus, 69, a native of Schenectady, NY and a 38 year resident of Poquoson after a long battle with cancer died at home on Sunday, January 30, 2011. He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired after 20 years of service in 1980. He was a Master Craftsman and Woodcarver, the Self Employed owner of Wood and Wood Knots, Inc. Frederick was preceded in death by his parents Richard Bruce Altemus and Veronica Ann (Boudreau) Altemus; his brother Richard Altemus. He is survived by Marilyn Kay Altemus, his best friend and beloved wife of 43 years; son Jeffery Allen Altemus and wife Jennifer of Sacramento, California; sisters...
Frederick William Altemus, 69, a native of Schenectady, NY and a 38 year resident of Poquoson after a long battle with cancer died at home on Sunday, January 30, 2011. He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired after 20 years of service in 1980. He was a Master Craftsman and Woodcarver, the Self Employed owner of Wood and Wood Knots, Inc.

Frederick was preceded in death by his parents Richard Bruce Altemus and Veronica Ann (Boudreau) Altemus; his brother Richard Altemus. He is survived by Marilyn Kay Altemus, his best friend and beloved wife of 43 years; son Jeffery Allen Altemus and wife Jennifer of Sacramento, California; sisters Leslie Ann Pritchard, Mary Lynne Brantley; brothers John Adair Altemus and Edward Altemus. He will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews close friends and extended family.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Feb. 2 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Poquoson Volunteer Rescue Squad, 830 Poquoson Ave., Poquoson, VA 23662, the American Cancer Society, 11835 Canon Blvd, Ste. 102-A, Newport News, VA 23606, or to your local S.P.C.A.
