I was a chemistry student when Freddie was a Physics lecturer at UG. But when I started to take my first love astronomy seriously long after I graduated, I consulted him about a penumbral eclipse of the Moon when I encountered him ~1979 in the then Guyana (formerly Bookers) Stores bookshop. His only words to me were: "What do you expect to see?"
I could make no answer, and he returned to perusing the books. But the economy of his answer to my question remained with me and enabled me to refine my researches to pose answerable questions.

To the Campayne family,
How very well I remember Fred. We were at primary school ( Sacred Heart -Main Street ), and later moved over to SSC in Sept 1951.
He was always ready with his huge smile to assist us lesser achievers and there were countless times that I was able to encourage him to explain some Algebraic equation to me. So to Fred ,thanks for being my friend over all these years and for all your help. I will always remember you and your family in my prayers. May God bless you all.
