Lt. Col. Fredrick Gene Blackburn, age 84, passed away on October 30, 2013 following a lengthy illness. Fred was born in Terre Haute, IN on July 27, 1929 to the late Bonnie O. and Lavonne G. Blackburn.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Marilyn, daughters Donna Watkins and Lori Mahaffy (James), granddaughter Madison Shea Mahaffy, son Bruce Blackburn (Laura), grandchildren Ariel and Riley Blackburn.
Lt. Col. Fred served in the Army as an Aviator and was a decorated Korean and Vietnam veteran. He earned multiple medals and commendations during his service to our country, including Purple Heart, Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Distinguished Flying Cross.
Fred was an avid Gator fan and loved college football. He enjoyed golf, reading, and spending time with his family.
A celebration of Fred's life will be held 11am Saturday November 2 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd. Jacksonville Beach, FL.
Memorial donations may be made in Fred's name to Community Hospice of NE FL, 4266 Sunbeam Rd. Jacksonville, FL 32257.
