Freida Evalyn Hill (Upshaw), resident of Midwest City, Oklahoma, passed away Monday evening at the age of 90. She was born September 21, 1922 to Lemuel and Lenora Upshaw. Freida grew up in Blackburn, Oklahoma where she attended school and graduated in 1941. During her years in Blackburn, she worked hard to help support her family by picking cotton, raising chickens and helping out on the family farm. Upon graduation, Freida moved to Oklahoma City and began work at Tinker Air Force Base. Freida had the privilege of serving her country by being a true "Rosie the Riveter". During her employment at Tinker, she met the love of her life, Floyd Hill, who was serving in the United States Air Force. They married on June 15, 1946 and enjoyed 49 years of marriage until Floyd's death in 1995. On their fourth anniversary, they welcomed the arrival of their only son, Floyd Mark Hill. During Freida and Floyd's marriage, they had the opportunity to serve at various Air Force bases including stations in Luxembourg and France. In 1965, Floyd and Freida returned to Oklahoma upon Floyd's retirement from the Air Force and made Midwest City their home. During that time, Freida became heavily involved as a member of the NCO Wives' Club where she served in various offices, including President on numerous occasions. Freida had many talents which included sewing, needle work and crocheting, but she was renowned for her cooking abilities. She won multitudes of ribbons and prizes for her culinary efforts. Freida also had a passion for gardening. Every spring, her home would come alive with beautiful flowers that she had planted, tended and cared for. Freida is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Hill, her parents, Lemuel and Lenora Upshaw, one brother, Roy Upshaw, and one brother-in-law, Leslie "Doc" Blanchard. Freida is survived by her son, Floyd Mark Hill and his wife Connie and their daughter Brooklyn of Midwest City, Oklahoma, one sister, Ruby Violet Blanchard of Biloxi, Mississippi, sister-in-law, Rene Upshaw of Ponca City, Oklahoma and nephews Darvin Upshaw and Greg Upshaw, grandchildren Clint Gholson, Erin McKenzie, and Todd, Ben and Sunni Moore.
