Frieda Sizonen, age 97, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 26, 2012. Frieda was born December 1, 1914 in Sheboygan to Fredrick and Elizabeth Hermann. She was a baptized and confirmed member of Trinity Lutheran Church and School. On May 4, 1935 she was united in marriage to Wesley Sizonen at Trinity Lutheran Church Parsonage. They were married fifty-seven years when Wesley preceded her in death on January 20, 1992. Frieda was born December 1, 1914 in Sheboygan to Fredrick and Elizabeth Hermann. She was a baptized and confirmed member of Trinity Lutheran Church and School. On May 4, 1935 she was united in marriage to Wesley Sizonen at Trinity Lutheran Church Parsonage. They were married fifty-seven years when Wesley preceded her in death on January 20, 1992.
Frieda worked at Vollrath Co. for two years before beginning employment at Wigwam Mills for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1979. She was a twenty-five year Wigwam Mills Club member.
After retirement she became involved with the Sheboygan Senior Center for many years where she enjoyed making crafts for special events at the center. Frieda loved being with people and helping where she could. She was a volunteer at Heritage Nursing Home where she helped the residents with bingo. She belonged to the Senior Bean Bag Team for many years. Her happy nature won her many friends. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who called her "Nana".
Frieda is survived by her son, Robert Sizonen and his special friend, Dolores Scheidt; her son-in-law, Peter Kortenhorn and fiancée Carol Hogue; four grandchildren, Roger (Teresa) Sizonen, Rick Sizonen, Donna (Rick) Melanz, Jilene Kortenhorn; eight great-grandchildren, Doug Melanz, Mike Melanz, Dan Melanz, Joshua Sizonen, Ryan Sizonen, Ashley Wollin, Devin Wollin, and Shannon Wollin; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Wesley, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth Kortenhorn; her granddaughter, Lisa Kortenhorn; two sisters, Elizabeth Ertel and Amalia Wuethrick; four brothers, Fred Hermann, Henry Hermann, John Hermann, and Phil Hermann; and her daughter-in-law, Carol Sizonen.
Frieda loved collecting angel figurines and was so happy when her children surprised her with having an angel engraved on her crypt.
Funeral services will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at Ballhorn Chapels. Rev. Timothy J. Mech, Senior Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate. A time of visitation and support will be held from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. Entombment will take place at Garden Terrace Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name.
