I miss Gamal. The last couple of years have been very hard for me and now that he's resting, it's even harder. Gamal was a true compadre who was always willing to support me through all the great times and the hard times. He never shied away from any uncomfortable situations and as a result made the situations comfortable for everyone. Although I am heartbroken over his passing, I am thankful beyond measure for having the opportunity to share amazing memories with him. I miss you and love you Gamal.

The last time I saw gamal was not too long ago, it was around early october I believe and this was the first i've seen him in a while. We were at drayson & played a couple basketball games together. After the game, we had a short talk & he asked how I was doing. Although i wasn't that close with gamal, he still wanted to know how i was doing with school, etc. That showed me how caring of a person Gamal was. Unfortunately, It was the last but actually the most I've ever talked to him. I've always known Gamal to be a very intelligent and funny individual. He doesn't even have to say anything but just stand there with his big smile and make everyone in the room laugh. So many countless, funny moments with Gamal that I will cherish & miss about him. He will always be known for his intelligence and humor. Gamal, may you rest in peace brother. We love you & miss you. Jesus is coming soon!!!

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18King James Version (KJV)

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

See you when Jesus comes!

Gamal Sihotang, you were a great friend, mentor, and brother of mine. I always enjoyed being in your company as you could always make me laugh and smile. But not only that, you were a wise man who would always share some knowledge with me that I would always think about and has influenced my life. It makes me sad knowing that I am writing this, but I have been blessed to be able to have all the memories that we had together recently. It always made me happy when I would see you in the most random places, and it was always so easy for you to hang out with me, no matter who you were with. I am so sorry to hear this life we shared together has been cut short for you, but I pray that you are resting peacefully in Jesus. I love you man, RIP.

"What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch. We may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you're gone, but that you lived. And that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget"

A life taken is always a life taken too young. Words can never describe the magnitude of influence a person has on the world, those surrounding him, and those he love. We just strive to live a honorable life and you, Gamal Sihotang have done that. In your life and in your passing we are all reminded to hold our love ones close. The world and Heaven just switch hands. God has you now. Rest easy cousin.

All my RHS friends and especially class of 2005. I found out last week that we lost a great friend from high school last Monday due to a horrible automobile accident. Let's take a minute to say a prayer and light a candle for Gamal Sihotang. His funeral service is available for viewing on live stream now. Thanks to modern technology many of us are able to see his final moments, hear is legacy, and say our final good byes. We never know when our last day on earth will be and the last time you will see or talk to your loved ones. Instead of text, call, instead of just calling, hang out. Tell the people you love how much they mean to you and cherish every moment with them. Gamal you may be gone from this earth physically but not spiritually. Heaven has received another angel and we gained a guardian angel. Until we meet again at Heaven's gates. Rest in peace.

There are particular memories that come to mind when I think of you, Gamal. However, some of the things that I will remember most will be your enthusiasm and friendliness. As I sat in a full to the max memorial service for our friend Gamal Sihotang I couldn't help but reflect on how many lives his life touched. Though I never had more than a handful of conversation w him, the more I heard his family n close friends speak the more I realized I had the privilege of meeting n speaking w a man who loved the Lord. Life even on the smallest molecular level, matters to God. Gamal mattered, you matter, I matter n more than that we are VALUED n WANTED by God. God wants to be known. It is why He created everything. Again HE wants to be known. He wants to have a relationship w us. Funerals always bring me to a place of humility n reminds me to be sober minded...for no one knows the hour when their life will be taken up. But more than that Gamal's legacy will forever be echoed that he loved the Lord n that though he struggled greatly possibly more than we can ever know, we can stand firm on Gods promises that we will see our brother again because we saw the fruits of what he believed in his life. I pray that the legacy that me n my family leave behind will be that God was first n that others were blessed through us. Losing a family/ friend is hard because of the void that is created when a loved one dies but for the believer there is hope of a reunion in the best way because our hope is built on nothing less then Jesus love n righteousness. I pray that we believers would strive to live our lives in obedience to Gods word n speak love n truth into the lives of many for HIS glories sake. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Save us a place on the banqueting table near you brother. To God be the Glory. Amen.

WHAT I REMEMBER ABOUT GAMAL WAS THAT WE WERE CHILDHOOD FRIENDS AND HE WOULD ALWAYS COME UP WITH GREAT IDEAS TO ENTERTAIN US. GROWING UP WITH HIM WAS DEFINITELY NOT BORING. GAMAL WAS FULL OF LIFE AND JOY. HE ALWAYS ACKNOWLEDGED EVERYONE AROUND HIM. HE NEVER LEFT ANYONE OUT. HE WAS SUCH A GREAT KID AND A GREAT FRIEND. I REMEMBER WHEN I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL GAMAL MADE THE EFFORT TO CHECK ON ME AND SEE IF I WAS OKAY. WHENEVER I SAW HIM HE ALWAYS MADE IT ABOUT ME AND NOT HIM. HE ALWAYS MADE YOU FEEL SPECIAL. HE WAS SUCH A FRIENDLY GUY. I WILL NEVER FORGET THE LAST TIME I SAW HIM. IT WAS ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO AND IT WAS AFTER CHURCH. HE CAME TO GIVE ME A HUG AND ASKED ME HOW I WAS DOING. GAMAL IT SADDENS ME THAT WE HAVE TO PUT OUR FRIENDSHIP ON PAUSE. YOU WERE GONE TOO SOON MY FRIEND. CINDY YOUR FAMILY WILL REMAIN IN MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS. I PRAY THAT GOD BRINGS YOU ALL COMFORT DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME.

Twenty seven years old is such a young age. We are speechless but at the same time take comfort in knowing that you are safely home with God.
Gamal, we will miss you. You are now on a much better place. No more voices but God's. You are such a vibrant individual. I hope heaven will be able to keep it up with you!
Rest in peace Gamal.., rest in peace. Until we see you again in that beautiful morning!

December 15, 2014

We will miss you Gamal Sihotang. I wish I could have gotten to know you better as you seemed to have so much to share in life, love, God, and being the perfect example of how a Godly person should be. I will take what I have learned about you today at your memorial service and carry it with me as well as what I learned from being your friend through the times at the gym, bible study and hanging out with Engel and friends.
I want to remind everyone that time is a valuable thing. It's the most appreciated thing to share with other loved ones. If there is someone calling out to you for your time, find this time to spend with that person. You wont regret it and they will love you more for it.
My Grandpa was also buried today in Kentucky. He was a family oriented person and enjoyed the important things in life. His family, singing at Church, working with his sons and building strong bonds with them.
My brother told me the other day that he wishes he could have had more time with Grandpa to play cards as this was one of Grandpas favorite hobbies (ROOK) But no longer is this possible.
There are unfortunate trials everyone goes through in life. Having strong relationships with loved ones makes all the pain and suffering more bearable. As well as the good times more enjoyable and memorable. Finding time to maintain these relationships should always be regarded as necessary in life. So when your dad asks if you wanna go walk the dog with him or if your friend calls and needs help with a school project, make that time for them. Its more important than you probably realize.
Cindy Sihotang and family, God be with you all in you times of mourning.

I knew Gamal back in college at FH in Orlando. He was always around. The dorm lobby, then dorm apartments, FBL games, Church, lunches after church, Sunday football games at Baldwin park, any birthday celebrated, get togethers at my house etc. Needless to say, he was a easy going, fun loving, and social being. He was such a positive person. As skinny as he was, the boy could eat!! I was envious he looked good in skinny jeans! I have fond memories of dancing with him to the 'weird' music we both were into at the time. I remember he helped me and my friend with his flat tire. Random memories..he was a always a nice guy. In conversing with him, you knew he was a deep and insightful person. He had a refreshing perspective on life. A memory that sticks out is him and me at an Emery concert. I especially remember this because we were near the stage and somehow ended up in the mosh pit. As brave as I thought I was, once u get kicked in the head; that's goes out the window. Thank you Gamal for looking out for my safety, for protecting me at that moment, and for getting me out of that situation! I'm sorry I didn't see you as much while we were both in Cali..I had no idea. I wish I could have been there for you. I'm sadden to hear that you're gone so early but comforted that you are not suffering. I will always remember you..full of character..full of life. May you rest in peace.

Gamal! I miss your huge smile and your ability to liven the room and bring happiness to people around you. When I first met you at LSU, I thought you were such a goofball but as I got to know you I realized you were much more than that. You were a great friend to many people, had such a caring heart, loved your family, friends, and God, and had the ability to make genuine connections with those around you. I'm glad I was able to share some great moments with you that I won't forget, like hiking up Grand Canyon or helping you up after you fell off the log into a creek at the Bungee Jump hike. Gamal was a great tennis partner. He was one of the first people I met when starting college, and he made me feel right at home, even convincing me that I actually had some racket skills. He was an easy-going, energetic, bright person that really left a mark wherever he went. Even though I didn't see him for years, when we met up again, he acted like an old friend, just as attentive as always. Everyone around him was lucky to be touched by his company.

Lots of good memories that were shared with Gamal. Something that specifically stands out are the times when a group of us used to play Quinto countless nights at Sierra Towers. Inside sayings such as, "Do you see what I see?" or "Quinto-ra!" or "Heart of the cards!" bring a smile to my face when I think of them.

But even with all these fond memories, I will remember Gamal for the love he had for Jesus and for other people. He had a genuine spirit that not only showed through his humor, but especially through his desire and enthusiasm to learn and seek spiritual truths from the Bible. Knowing this, I find comfort because according to John 17:3, THIS IS eternal life.

Brother, thank you for your example that inspires me to not let opportunities to acknowledge people pass by, but instead to take the time & initiative to show love. Because it is through Christlike love that we see God. [1 John 4:12]

Gamal was a social butterfly who could bring people together like no one else can. He threw a Valentines party at my house and planned each moment down to the second! He was a great MC and game host, perfectly balancing the number of girls and boys at the party. He even brought a photo booth in! It was the most number of people I have ever had in my home and definitely the most memorable times all our friends have had. Gamal had a laugh and charisma that could fill up the whole room in an instant. Sam and I prayed for him every night for over a year, and I just found out that he prayed for us too! I will always remember brother Gamal and his fun-loving self. I'm looking forward to see you in heaven one day!

Gamal was always sooo funny. I just read Sam's message and I remember giving him the wetones and tissue to go number 2 during the hike. He is still making me laugh remembering those moments. I was close to Gamal when everyone started 1st yr Med school. He loved God and even got me to go to church with him on Mondays last year. He was adventurous, easygoing, optimistic, and funny. He even made "the Bernice" peace sign . Thank you for being you. Thank you for being adventurous and taking me along your journey.

Gamaliel. I'm so grateful for the brief time we had together. Your outgoing, lively and carefree personality helped me to heal and let go after a challenging year. We had so much fun, dance-dance competition, hikes, picnics, avocado smoothies, always eating something (haha), hanging out with your family and friends, basketball (even though I'm aweful), and of course volleyball. We had such open and deep conversations...it was really nice. And you helped me to dig deeper into my faith, a true gift. You made a huge impact on my brother too, and I'm so blessed by the way you reached out to him. I'm so thankful to Cindy too, and the rest of your family for accepting me in. I haven't, nor will I ever forget.

Soo many memories of him. One that sticks out right away is how free and easy he was, at every situation. We were hiking this 6 mi hike in Grand Canyon during winter with a whole bunch of people. He had to go to the bathroom for number 2, and of course there weren't any around. So he just excused himself and said, "What I take from the Earth, I give back". Gamal always wanted to make other people smile, and I'll never forget his laugh. May be be made whole in Him, brother

"I remember Gamal always smiling, always helpful and making sure everyone is well taken care off. He had arranged the best vespers and valentines party in our house. Gamal organized the hike to Mt Rubidoux, a night hike experience, he made sure we all had flashlights, snacks, enough water. Oh, it was so memorable. Thank you Gamal. We are going to meet again when the trumpet sounds at Jesus' second coming."

Oh Gamal. I can't say I quite remember exactly how we met, but we had instant connection! I believe it's been about 2-3 years since we've met and our friendship had grown immensely. You always made sure to wish me a good week, invite me to Bible studies held at your church, always prayed for me, and made sure I felt included whenever we both were in the same social settings. Being able to be a part of your rich yet short life has been a blessing I will always cherish and you being a part of mine has shown me what it means to have true friendship. You were a true friend, Gamal. One of the truest. Your love for others and especially your love for God is so sincere and pure that it was like a breath of fresh air! In this day and age, it's hard to find true lovers of Christ who also walk in the ways of Christ...but you did! Through you, I was able to get a glimpse of the love of Christ manifested and I will always be grateful for that. Till Christ comes again, we have no choice but to say goodbye. Rest in peace, Gamal.

My wife and I were so blessed to have met Gamal. He was extremely sociable and knew how to get along with others. He was excellent at building rapport and making new friends. He was always positive and had words of encouragement to give, or jokes to tell. In short, he touched our lives and we were so glad to have had him as a friend.
Gamal loved kids, which was no surprise, since he was such a big kid at heart. He would always fool around and tell jokes/play pranks to make people feel at ease. I can't imagine the pain that the Sihotang family are going through...the death of a child is something no parent should go through. Our family will continue to pray for your grief and suffering. Peace of heart is something that only God can bestow, and we pray that you will feel His presence in your heart and family home. We will always be here if you need to talk or visit.

I didn't know Gamal very well or for very long, but one of the funniest memories I have with Gamal was when he joined us for lunch at Martha Greens and he was sitting next to me. We were merrily chatting away and out of the corner of my eye, I see him reach for my napkin. I thought he was stealing my napkin; so I cry out, "Gamal, what are you doing? That's my napkin?!" He looked puzzled because all he was doing was wiping his fingers on my napkin and not "stealing" it, like I thought he was going to do. His response was that he was too lazy to grab a napkin, so he used the next closes one––which happened to be mine. Thanks for making that luncheon memorable, Gamal! I hope to have lunch with you again soon!

Gamal, you never excluded anyone and you were always open welcoming everyone with that sincere smile and heart. I will always remember the night hike up to the C in Riverside, sitting up there overlooking the valley and talking about life. You were always more athletic but you kept it slow going down the mountain in the dark and checking to see if everything was alright on my end. You will be missed and sleep tight. Prayers to the Sihotang family.

Gamal, you pushed me to become a better basketball player on the court, and then even a bigger and better Christian in real life. You shined your light for Christ! I'm going to miss having your encouragement!

Although Gamal was a few classes ahead of me at RHS, I always felt like he really respected me and I looked up to him. We both loved to play volleyball and anytime I was in the area he would hit me up and we would go play in some league together. He was always so friendly, caring and outgoing. I rarely ever saw him without a smile on his face unless it was an intense volleyball game ;) He will be missed greatly, but I am grateful to know he is in his Father's hands. My love and prayers go out to the Sihotang family.

Gamal, you always made me smile with your friendly disposition and awesome handshake. You always took the time to ask me how my day was going, and I knew you cared. You loved music - I will carry some of that passion with me and will try to pour it into each song I perform. I still remember our long group conversation in the tent at the beach retreat - talking about career, dreams, gambling, family. It was a delightful talk. Rest in peace, brother, and I will see you before long.

I didn't really know Gamal that long. We met when I started going to church with some friends from school. He was always kind and had a smile on his face. He would go out of his way to shake my hand, give me a hug, whatever he was feeling at the time. On the basketball court we had some good battles. What I will always remember about him was a camping trip we all went on to Silverwood Lake for Pathfinders. Being one of the eldest there, Gamal was very helpful to us, but the thing I will always remember was the words of wisdom he gave us. While most of the people there have been in church learning about the Bible their whole life, I was different. I hadn't come from a church going family and didn't have a very good knowledge of the Bible. The first night, some other friends and I were in the same tent as Gamal and we stayed up almost all night. Gamal was telling me all about the different stories in the Bible and how they apply to life today. I was blown away. While everybody else chimed in, I Just listened. I was blown away by the knowledge he had. Some of the words he has said to me over the years now have stuck to me and I will never forget them and I will never forget Gamal. You will always be missed sir; by me, by my Phurfus brothers, by your family, and by anyone you have ever met. Your presence and kindness was always felt and always will.

Gamal, If I hadn't moved, we would have been hanging out every week! I met you at la Sierra and you were so friendly. We remained close throughout my college years at Loma Linda and played bball together, eating tacos at some random house, and sharing lots of laughs. You were always so kind and I can still hear your laughter. You will truly be missed.

Gamal was a man who can brighten up the room with his smile. He was fun to be around and gave people energy. Though he is not with us at this moment, he will rise up from the grave because NOTHING, not even death, can separate us from God's love. In a little while, we will be reunited with him, and we will go home. Keep the faith in Jesus.

Lamlam. Gamal. I can't even remember how long I've known him. We use to hang out all the time. He was the most honest person I knew. It's what made talking to him so easy. There was just something so genuine about Gamal and everything he said and did. He had the kindest heart and probably why he had so many friends. I have too many great memories of Gamal to share from watching all his volley ball games in high school, to when he walked in the wrong house with his shoes off, to him bursting inappropriate feelings in front of Cindy, to him "hunting in the safari" or to all the serious but hilarious one liners he would say. I will forever be greatful and blessed to have shared so many memories with Gamal. I love and miss you so much.

Gamal barely even knew me, but whenever we passed by each other at school he was always so friendly and happy! I saw the love of Jesus in him. See you when you wake up, brother. :)
