Gary Melvin Miller was born on March 11, 1944 in Waterloo, Iowa son of Melvin L. and Iona Miller. He grew up in Evansdale, Iowa and attended East Waterloo High School. On December 19, 1964 he was married to Roseann M. Calhoun in Iconium, Iowa. They lived in Waterloo, Iowa later moved to Sussex New Jersey, Greeneville, TN, Winsdor, PA and settled in Safety Harbor, Florida. Gary is survived by his wife, Roseann Miller of Safety Harbor, four children, Andrew Miller, Kristen Weimer, Elizabeth Miller, and Carin Miller, six grandchildren Rachael Deckman, Brianna Weimer, Zachary Weimer, Jasmine Miller, Nathan Miller, and Tyler Miller and two...
Gary Melvin Miller was born on March 11, 1944 in Waterloo, Iowa son of Melvin L. and Iona Miller. He grew up in Evansdale, Iowa and attended East Waterloo High School. On December 19, 1964 he was married to Roseann M. Calhoun in Iconium, Iowa. They lived in Waterloo, Iowa later moved to Sussex New Jersey, Greeneville, TN, Winsdor, PA and settled in Safety Harbor, Florida.
Gary is survived by his wife, Roseann Miller of Safety Harbor, four children, Andrew Miller, Kristen Weimer, Elizabeth Miller, and Carin Miller, six grandchildren Rachael Deckman, Brianna Weimer, Zachary Weimer, Jasmine Miller, Nathan Miller, and Tyler Miller and two sisters Melva Schreiber and Diane Halgren .
Gary graduated with a degree in Tech/Industrial Technology from the University of Northern Iowa and received Engineering and Management Program Executive Training from UCLA.
During his career as an executive manager, Gary was responsible for teams of engineers that provided major systems to the DOD and prime contractors. Gary had over 40 years of experience in senior level corporate positions and was involved in enhancing conventional munitions, missiles, and military systems at Chamberlain Manufacturing, Aerojet Ordnance, General Defense, and Olin Ordnance.
Gary joined L-3 Communications in 2002 where he was the Director of Systems Programs leading several programs including the 105 mm Stryker MGS system and the new 120mm Multi-Purpose High Explosive Data Link cartridge program integration into the Abrams M1A1 tank system for the US Marine Corps.
Gary was most recently the Director of Manufacturing for Liberty Ammunition in Bradenton, FL.
Throughout his career Gary co-authored two patents in Kinetic Energy ammunition for the US Army, and received several awards from the US Army in the development and enhancement of tank ammunition.
Gary's career took him around the world, but as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather his great pleasure was his family. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a past member of the Johnsonburg Gun Club, he enjoyed going to see the "Bucs", and always found great pleasure in attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
The memorial service is being held at Harbor Life Church (formerly Countryside Cathedral) on Tuesday June 25, 2013 at 2:00 pm. Gary will then be transported to his final resting place in Iconium, Iowa. Please reference www.mossfeasterdunedin.com for information.
