Gary Hartner passed away at his home in Gladstone on April 2, 2014 at 80 years old, surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born on May 14, 1933 to William D. Hartner, Sr., and Grace Hartner in Topeka, Kansas. He was the youngest of seven children and was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings, with the exception of his sister Helen Harding.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 1:00-3:00PM at the McGilley Antioch Chapel. Services will follow at 3:00PM. Family suggest contributions to KU Cancer Center.

Gary joined the United States Air Force in 1950 and spent four years in the service. He served in Korea during the war.

In 1954, he returned to Topeka where, in 1958, he met his wife Judy at the coffee shop of the State Capitol where they both worked. Married 55 years, they have three children, Kelli (Joe) Chabot, Kurt (Christy) Hartner and Karri (Austin) Miller. They have seven grandchildren: Kelsey and Kara Chabot, Evan and Blake Hartner, Logan, Morgan, and Christian Pauley. He also has sisters and brothers-in-law and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Family was the most important thing in his life. No other family could possibly have said "I love you" more than it was said in the Hartner house. In fact, there is a sign over a doorway in the home that reads, "Love You More."

Gary retired from GSA in 1995 and spent his retirement traveling with his family and attending his grandchildren's extracurricular activities.
Gary: believe it or not, we do love you more and we will miss you more than could ever be put into words. Thank you for the endless happy memories. Thank you for inspiring us, supporting us, laughing with us, and loving us unconditionally.
