Gary Kutcher Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 17, 2015.

Gary P. Kutcher of San Antonio, Texas, passed away August 15, 2015. He was born in Canton, Ohio, September 10, 1944, the only child of Paul A. and Madonna R. (Pritchard) Kutcher. He was a graduate of Glenwood High School (1962), Malone College (B.A., 1966), Ohio University (M.A., 1967), and the University of Maryland (Ph.D., 1972).

From 1970 to 1983, Dr. Kutcher was a staff member of the World Bank in Washington, D.C., working on agriculture and water resources issues in Mexico, Brazil, Pakistan, Egypt, and Sierra Leone. From 1984 until his retirement in 2003, he was a consultant to the World Bank and United Nations Development Program, continuing to work in Pakistan, Egypt, and China. He specialized in the construction of large scale computer models to analyze policies and projects in the Indus, Nile, and Yellow River basins, and appraised dam and water supply projects. He co-authored two books, The Agricultural Economy of Northeast Brazil, and Irrigation Planning with Environmental Considerations, and numerous technical articles.

He and his parents were one of the first six families that started the First Friends Church. He was a youth leader and attended the church until he went to college.

Gary had been an avid collector of World War II military vehicles, and a member of the Classic Military Vehicles Club (MD). In more recent years, he collected classic Corvettes, and became a member of the Sixth Scale Collectors Club of Ohio, making precise military reproductions.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Maria Helena (de Castro Silva) of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; his mother, Madonna Ruth Kutcher, of North Canton, OH; and daughter, Heidi Lynn Kutcher, of Silver Spring, Maryland.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday at First Friends Church, 5455 Market Ave. N, Canton, Ohio 44714. Interment will be at West Lawn Cemetery, Canton. Friends may call 6-8pm Thursday in the Karlo-Libby Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or Crossroads Hospice.

On behalf of myself an the fellow members of the SSCC (Sixth Scale Collector's Club) I would like to extend our deepest sorrow to Maria and Heidi.
Gary cast a giant shadow over the WW2 1/6 vehicle collectors with his outstanding scratch builds. I also have several of his models that will always remind me of a dear friend and Brother.

God bless Gary. Rest well my friend.
