Gary was my trainer/supervisor when I arrived at Dobbins AFB as a two-striper traditional reservist. After about a year Gary said he saw something in me (something I didn't see in myself) and he convinced me to fill out the paperwork to become a fulltime Air Reserve Technician. I was hired fulltime a few years later and worked side by side with Gary until his retirement (I'm still there so I guess Gary was right). He was a great mechanic and was always willing to share his knowledge. I'll never forget the times we spent working on engines or the stories Gary shared with us. I was fortunate to visit with Gary earlier this year where we spent several hours rehashing old trips and sharing those same stories. Rest peacefully my friend and peace, love, and prayers to the Vollmer family.

Served with Gary from 1978 until he retired from service. He was one of my trainers on the old C-7 Caribou . He had told me many stories over the years and I always enjoyed each. One had told me about was his trip to Thailand after the fall if Vietnam to recover many of the C-7s. The trip back was long and hard with the cargo bay loaded with Benson Tanks(fuelTanks) and not much room to travel in. Gary was a thro mechanic on piston eng a/c and C-130 Turbo props a/c. He had another nick name in the Eng Shop ( many of us did) his was Mother Nature a fun name with no disrespect meant. Wish I could have seen my ole friend before he passed. But it seems we always put things off for to long and then it is to late. Still have my stories of Gary . Gary was a little like me , he had boots before he had wings . Him in the Army then Air Force myself Army Brat and Air Force Ret . Thank you Gary for being there for our nation and for those like myself who you helped train. May you have a Tail Wind into Heaven.

Vera thank you for sharing Corky with us at the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation. From tank engines to Caribou round engines he was a master. We never knew there was so much to learn about the Caribou engine. He was a great and jovial teacher. His dry humor will be missed at the hangar. Corky I'm told that round engines don't leak oil in heaven. Thank you for your long service to our nation and volunteering with us at AAHF. Rest in Peace my dear friend.

Mrs. Vollmer, Gary, Sylvia and Family. It was a pleasure to know Mr. Vollmer, if only for a short time. I sincerely admire how competent you all were in providing excellent care for Mr. Vollmer as his health declined. I was impressed by your devotion to him throughout his illness. May peace and comfort come quickly.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Vollmer family. He was a friend and co-worker. When we got together he always had stories to tell and pictures to show of what he was involved in. May he rest in peace and may God be with his family.

Thank you Gary for your service to our great country. You were a fine engine mechanic in the Air Force reserves. I will always remember your dedication to the 94th Air Wing. I remember once when you were in Panama and confined to bed with an injured back, you still helped us trouble shoot from your bed, an APU problem on one of our aircraft. We will miss you Gary. May God rest your soul my friend. Bill Estes CMSgt Ret.
