Gene Marc Nehlig passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at the age of 34. He is the loving father of Lucy Lois Nehlig; son of Eugene M. Nehlig and Sharon Leverett Nehlig; and brother to Damien P. Nehlig Sr. Gene is the grandson to the late paternal grandparents Dave & Gertrude (Beulah) Nehlig and the late maternal grandparents Anthony & Geneice Sasso and George Leverett. Gene enjoyed a close bond with his sister-in-law Jeannie Trudeau Nehlig. He is survived and fondly remembered by his nephews Damien P. Nehlig Jr. and Matthew J. Nehlig; niece Kayla M. Nehlig, his god-parents Dolly Neal and Randall Leverett, and his grandmother Lee Leverett.
Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman. If he wasn’t deep in the woods, he could often be found with a fishing pole in hand. He never recognized, nor realized, just how many lives he touched and the impact he made on those lives. He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed and never forgotten by his family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Thursday, September 21st from 11:00AM – 2:00PM, followed by a service of Christian Faith in Gene’s memory beginning at 2:00PM. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony.
