Gene "Geno" Dodd passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013, at home. He was born January 14, 1947, in Lynn, Ala., to James Luther and Annie Bell Taylor Dodd. He graduated from Lynn High School in 1965 and entered the Army in 1966 and served two years. Gene and his wife, Nancy, moved to Decatur from Birmingham in 1979. He and his wife opened Geno's Pub in 1986 and ran it until 2002. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, JM and Lathen Dodd; and his son, Ronald Dodd.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy; daughter, Dena; granddaughter, Synclair; and two brothers, James and Garnett Dodd.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dwight Nesmith officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. After services a luncheon will be held for all family and friends at the VFW, 2309 Veterans Drive SE.
Pallbearers will be Randy Presswood, Greg Lentz, DC Moore, Greg Maples, Steve Waits and David Mansbridge.
Honorary pallbearers are Marlin Hutson, Mike Love, Carl Jones, Carlton Hanner and all the brothers of the Veterans of Foreign War and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
