George "Ralph" Giessner, 70, a resident of Grand Prairie, TX, died Thursday, January 30, 2014 in Arlington, TX, Ralph was born September 3, 1943 in San Antonio, TX at Fort Sam Houston.He graduated Arlington High School in 1962. He married Angela Sutton on June 19, 1964. He attended Arlington State College, graduated as class salutatorian, with a degree in Mortuary Science from Gumpton-Jones Mortuary school in 1968. George "Ralph" Giessner, 70, a resident of Grand Prairie, TX, died Thursday, January 30, 2014 in Arlington, TX,
Ralph was born September 3, 1943 in San Antonio, TX at Fort Sam Houston.He graduated Arlington High School in 1962. He married Angela Sutton on June 19, 1964. He attended Arlington State College, graduated as class salutatorian, with a degree in Mortuary Science from Gumpton-Jones Mortuary school in 1968. He was recognized by the Mu Sigma Alpha Key for academic proficiency by the National Association of Colleges of Mortuary Science.He began his 25 year career in the funeral business with Hugh M. Moore & Sons in Arlington, TX and became a partner in Southland Funeral Home in Grand Prairie. which also provided ambulance service. Southland Ambulance employed young men that went on to professional careers in law enforcement, fire departments, lawyers, business owners, School Board Members and a State Representative. As a second career, Ralph and Angela opened Giessner Insurance Agency on August 1, 1989 where he worked until his death, serving clients for 25 years. Achievements in the insurance business earned them top honors and recognitions with Championship and Toppers Club awards. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason of the Valley of Dallas, Orient of Texas, and a long term member of the Scottish Rite 15th Degree Team, holding dual membership in Arlington Masonic Lodge No. 438 and Sam R. Hamilton Masonic Lodge No. 1031 in Grand Prairie where he is Past Master, a member of the Hella Shrine and Order of the Eastern Star No. 219 in Grand Prairie. Ralph served numerous community positions with the City of Grand Prairie, Grand Prairie Chamber of Commerce, President of the Grand Prairie Rotary Club 1978-1979 where he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow.Ralph was appointed to the Grand Prairie City Council in 1984 and again in 1986 to fill un-expired terms of former council members. Politics and governmental affairs were a passion that he passed on to his son. His many passions and activities include hunting, golf and his amateur membership in the radio club of Ellis County. Ralph had been a member of Inglewood United Methodist Church, but at the time of his passing, was a member of First Baptist Church.Survivors: wife of 50 years, Angela Sutton Giessner, son Greg and wife Kelly, daughter Jan and husband Von L. Evans Jr., MD and grandchildren Chad, Bailey and Andrew Evans and Will and Jake Giessner, brother Kenny and wife Jennifer Giessner and their children Jason, Justin and Kate, Aunt Lois Koerth and cousin Sandra and husband Larry Hoelting and numerous relatives and friends.
