New London - George Albert Nocery Sr., 84, of New London and Florida, died Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Nocery was born on June 26, 1932 in The Bronx, N.Y. He was the first born of five children to Edmund and Wanga Nocery and is survived by his sisters, Adrienne Glynn, Anita Schmiedel, Debra Calabro and is predeceased by his younger brother, Edmund.
He entered the Army from high school and faithfully served for six years. George is a veteran of the Korean War where he earned several medals and honors for his years of service and proudly carried with him great respect for our country as well as those who serve.
After George left the Army, he joined the Painter's Union Local 1122 in New London following in his family's footsteps as his father and uncle were also part of the painters union. George then took a job opportunity at Electric Boat as a shipfitter and belonged to the International Brotherhood Boilermakers local 614 where he retired.
For many years George was an active member of the American Legion in both New London, where he served as district commander, and Florida.
George is survived by his loving wife, Frances Nocery; his sons, George Nocery III of Cape Canaveral, Fla. and Dean Nocery of Waterford; and his daughters, Debra Balch of Virginia Beach, Va., Robin Collins and Mia Berube both of New London, Cynthia Nocery-Votolato of San Diego, Calif. and Pamela Nocery-Folwell of Tucson, Ariz.; he is also survived by seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017, at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean View Ave., New London. The service will be held at 6 p.m. immediately following calling hours in the funeral home. A Mass if Christian Burial will be held at a future date.

Dear Tykie and family, so sorry to hear of George's passing - I am so glad I was able to visit him @Backus and bring a smile to his face - he kissed me on the cheek as tears started to roll down his own -he told me he was so overwhelmed to know he had so many friends over the years ! I brought him balloons , and we chatted for awhile about the Norwood Ave. and Konomoc St. Years ! Love to all from the Ozea kids
