Mr Harris was our daughter's teacher in Aviano, Italy. He was a wonderful caring and dedicated teacher. Our daughter was very fortunate to have him as a teacher. Outside the classroom, we had a great honor to have know him. He would talk about the history, his favorite subject and we had such a great talk. Sad to see him gone. We will never forget you and his legacy will continue in those he touched. Our condolences and prayers to Mr Harris Family.

Mr. Harris was one of my favorite teachers of all time. He always cared so much about all of his students. I will always remember going on a school trip to Florence and Mr. Harris walked all the way to top of the clock tower with us (lots of stairs!)

Mr. Harris was a very bright light in my life. I will never forget his voice and that beautiful smile. He made a huge impact on my life and the lives of so many others. I remember the last words he said to me, 11 years ago as I walked up to get my diploma: "look at that smile, you've never looked more beautiful." He was always so positive and encouraging. Rest in Peace, Mr. Harris.
Love, Macaroni.

I still remember on my very first day at AHS during freshman orientation, I didn't know anybody yet so I just sat on a bench by myself while we were waiting around for our next event to begin.

Mr. Harris was the first person to come over to me and introduce himself, and we just struck up a simple conversation for about a good 10-15 minutes. That meant a lot at the time, and I'm sad I never got to tell him.

He was a great instructor, and I'm thankful to have known him. He will be greatly missed.

I can't believe he's gone. I believe I had him for three classes. His laugh was one of the things I have always remembered about him. I could always get him to laugh even if he was having a bad day. He will be missed. If I had kids I would love if they had teachers like him.

John & Luigina Byther

When George transfered from Germany to rural Aviano and was assigned junior high classes, he hinted that he intended to make his stay here a brief one. Perhaps to his surprise, his many talents, team spirit, and personality soon captivated both students and colleagues. Eventually he found his way back to high school and discovered the Italian culture had much to offer, both locally and often using the excellent rail system and the trusty Volvo. The stay was not brief.
Of course no one dressed as well as George. He personally kept a tailor, Alberto, in business and earned Luigina's affectionate nickname "Giorgio Armani".
Clever, witty, generous, gregarious, "explosive" sense of humor are just a few of the characteristics that would endear George to so many students, teachers, community members, both Italian and American, and especially close friends. He is missed by a multitude and remembered by us forever.

Mr. Harris.

Incredible human being. He was the only teacher to ever give me detention and he somehow found a way to get me to respect him even more because of it. Classy, kind, stern, and demanding. He seemed to laugh with his entire being.

And I just found out he played rugby??

Man, what I would give to sit down one more time and hear his stories.

While attending Scribner Junior High Mr. Harris gave me my first introduction to essay questions. At the time I asked myself, "Why is he doing this to me?" It wasn't until much later in life when I realized that it was because he cared about me as his student and wanted me to succeed. I am now a grandmother, and I wish that my children and grandchildren would have had the opportunity to have had a teacher like you to guide and encourage them in their education. Rest In Peace, Mr. Harris! And, thank you.

I had the great pleasure of working with George as a colleague and friend in both Frankfurt, Germany and Aviano AB, Italy. George was a dedicated educator as well as a gentle and thoughtful man. I'll always be grateful for his friendship. His dedicated service to the Department of Defense and military families in Europe will be long remembered by his colleagues and scores of students who passed through his classrooms. In doing so, he served the DoD and his country proudly and contributed in so many ways to the quality of life for our military connected students. His last assignment in Aviano gave him great enjoyment as he immersed himself in the culture and "la dolce vita" of Italy.

George, may you rest in peace. Thank you for being a wonderful friend and mentor to all of us. Arrivederci.

My sincere sympathy goes to his family and friends at this difficult time.

George was just a wonderful person, a saint on Earth. Our children loved him - even though he was a task master. They couldn't get away with slouching through his classes. He let them know and us and we all appreciated his professionalism. He was a charmer and could work his way into anyone's heart - student, parent, or colleague. We hope we will meet up with him in Heaven.

George and I attended Holy Trinity Grade School for 8 years and then Providene High School for 4 years. Add to that the fact that we were neighbors for some of those years. He was one of the nicest kids I ever knew. Always considerate of everyone. So glad that we reconnected earlier this year. But so sad that he is gone. I know he has a high place in heaven. RIP dear George.

Mr. Harris was an absolute inspiration in his finely tailored suits, his tall and regal bearing, his athleticism. He was reminiscent of a gentleman of a by-gone era and people loved him for that! His students in Europe remember him as an exacting but great teacher. I accompanied him to the Opera in Venice one time and his knowledge of that art form was impressive. Mr. Harris charmed everyone wherever he went. I remember him swimming laps at the base pool every summer and his physicality was inspiring. Talk about a life well lived!
