George Adams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 21, 2010.

George T. Adams of Austin, known as Papa to his grandchildren and children everywhere, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 20, 2010.

George was the 14th of 15 children born to William Thomas and Mary Jane Adams in Mount Sterling, Kentucky on June 1st, 1915.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific, attaining the rank of corporal. Upon his return from the war, he married the love of his life, Ruth Henry Adams. They made their home in Dayton, Ohio, where Mr. Adams was employed by General Motors until his retirement. Their three children and two grandchildren were the loves of their lives.

George is preceded in death by his wife Ruth Elizabeth Adams (his "Red Rose of Kentucky"). He is survived by his two sons, James T. Adams of Austin and David Adams and wife Angela of Smithville, Texas; his daughter, Jenna Madura of Melbourne, Florida; and his two granddaughters, Nico Adams and Tiffany Madura of Austin, Texas.

George was a loving husband, father and true friend. He was known for his kindness, love, and sense of humor and will be remembered for having an open hand and open heart for all. "Live by example, have no regrets."

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, December 26, 2010 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.

Open visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until service time at 4:00 p.m., Monday, December 27, 2010 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with Reverend Pat Kelly officiating. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.

Mr. Adams was my father's suite-mate at Garden House for a short time, and I am grateful that we had the opportunity to know him. His joy and sense of humor were most welcome, and his smile and jokes would light up the room wherever he was. We miss him, and our hearts go out to you during this difficult time. He lived a long and wonderful life, but it is never easy to say goodbye to someone you love, especially when they are such a welcome presence. With sympathy,

Even though I did not have the pleasure of knowing Mr. Adams, I was saddened to read of his passing. You see, I lost my 84 year old father, William A. Pribble, in 2007. He too grew up in Mt. Sterling, so I am almost certain that these two amazing men must have known one another. Mt. Sterling has really grown, but back then, it was so very small. My grandparents and other Mt. Sterling relatives are now deceased as well, but I do have one uncle who still lives in Mt. Sterling. His name is Bud Pribble, and he is 89 years old. I plan to send him Mr. Adams' obituary and ask whether or not they were friends when growing up. My father is known and remembered for all of the same great qualities as is Mr. Adams. Dad also proudly served in the U.S. Army during WW II, (in both Europe and the Pacific). How I wish that I had known of Mr. Adams before now, because I would have very much loved meeting him to enjoy some Mt. Sterling wisdom, humor, values, and kindness. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.

Sincerely,
Marilyn Kennison
