George Joseph Albert, age 86, died peacefully at home on April 1, 2010, surrounded by his family after a long illness. He was a native of New Orleans, a resident of Chalmette for fifty two years, and resided in Pearl River for his final years. Beloved husband of Rosemary Carreras Albert for 63 years. Loving father of Sherin Colombo (husband Anthony) and Rosemary Moity (husband Steve). He was preceded in death by his parents Louise and Arthur R. Albert, Sr., and brothers Arthur, Jr. and Henry. Devoted grandfather of Anthony Colombo,III (wife Jamie Ragas), Brandon Colombo (wife Jennifer Couvillion), Michelle Moity Martrain (husband Kevin Martrain) and Stephen Moity, Jr (wife Megan Maraia). He is survived by 7 great grandchildren, Kyle, Jacob, Emily, and Micah Colombo, Alexander and Abigail Martrain and Parker Albert Moity.
He served in the US Navy during World War II, was Post Commander of VFW post 3706 and served as All State Commander. He was a retired member of IBEW Local 130.
The family would like to express gratitude to the Lakeshore Hospice Group for 9 months of dedicated service, especially Barbara, Lisette, Gina, and Tasha.
A Funeral Mass will be held in the Chapel of Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 1:30 PM. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery #1. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lakeshore Hospice, 2659 N. Causeway Blvd., Mandeville, LA 70471.
