George Irving Alley COLUMBIA - George Irving Alley passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 surrounded by his family. Mr. Alley was born in Columbia, SC on September 13, 1919. He was the son of the late William G. and Essie Padgett Alley. Mr. Alley graduated from Columbia High School, he attended Clemson College, and graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law. He was a veteran of World War Two, serving in the United States Army Air Corps. Mr. Alley practiced law in Columbia for over 60 years, retiring at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Nancy Anderson Alley, a daughter Sharon "Sherry" Alley...

COLUMBIA - George Irving Alley passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 surrounded by his family. Mr. Alley was born in Columbia, SC on September 13, 1919. He was the son of the late William G. and Essie Padgett Alley. Mr. Alley graduated from Columbia High School, he attended Clemson College, and graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law. He was a veteran of World War Two, serving in the United States Army Air Corps. Mr. Alley practiced law in Columbia for over 60 years, retiring at the age of 92.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Nancy Anderson Alley, a daughter Sharon "Sherry" Alley Linder and her husband Virgil and a son George Robin Alley and his wife Julia, five grandchildren: Virgil "Biff" Finch Linder lll (Swati), Anderson Alley Linder (Sandy), Margaret "Meg" Linder Hearn (Keith), George Patrick Linder and Emma "Maggie" Alley Hastings (Jonathan), four great grandchildren: Isabella, AJ, and Clara Linder, and Wilson Hastings.
After his family Mr.Alley's great love and joy was Clemson University, he was a Life Member of IPTAY. His blood truly was orange.
Mr. Alley served as president of the Greater Columbia Clemson Club, Columbia Touchdown Club, and Irmo Ruritan Club. He started the Dixie Youth Baseball League in Irmo and was a founding member of the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
A visitation will be held at Caughman Harman Funeral Home, Bush River Chapel on Friday, April 11, 2014 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
A private celebration of his life will be held at a later time.
