GEORGE DANIEL BARR, JR. “DAN” died peacefully at his home in Lake Pineloch Village after a long illness.

Dan was born in Atlanta, Georgia on April 8, 1931.  He graduated from Orlando High School and has been a long time resident of his beloved Orlando.  He attended the University of Florida and was a devout Gators Fan.

After serving in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War as a member of the Military Police, he followed in his father’s footsteps and worked in the field of welding equipment repair and supply.  He founded Barr’s Welding Equipment and Repair Company in the early sixties providing welding equipment repair and services to the Greater Metropolitan Orlando and many Florida Areas.  His business lives on at the helm of two of his surviving sons.

Dan was a dedicated member of the Orlando Kiwanis Club and served as President and Auction Chairman.  He was proud to represent his chapter at an International Kiwanis Convention in Austria while President.

In recent years he enjoyed participating in The Orlando Old Timers Club.

He loved the outdoors and wildlife.  His favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, and using his hands and expertise in rebuilding.  He loved fixing and refurbishing anything and was great at it.  He and his wife, Patsy enjoyed traveling to many countries abroad.

Dan was dearly loved by all of his family, friends and anyone who was fortunate enough to have known him.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patsy Busing Barr, his daughters Pamela Barr Faircloth with her husband Ronnie Faircloth, and Lisa Barr Phipps with her husband Mark Phipps, his sons Richard Harold Barr with his wife Ellen, Michael Stephen Barr, and George Daniel Barr, III with his wife Suzanne Meeks Barr.  He has 7 grandsons, Tyson Daniel Faircloth, Corey Michael Faircloth, Brock Patrick Faircloth, Preston Richard Trimble, Nathaniel Mark Phipps, George Daniel Barr IV, and Matthew Barr.  He also has four great grandchildren, Cole Patrick Faircloth, Tyson Daniel Faircloth, Jr., Grant Michael Faircloth and Layla Jane Trimble.

Visitation will be held at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, 2811 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, on Sunday, March 17, from 3pm-5pm, where funeral service will take place on Monday at 11am.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a hospice organization of choice.

Arrangements entrusted to Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home.  407-898-2561.  Please visit www.careyhandcolonialfh.com to offer condolences.
