George S.Bettencourt jr., 73, of Eastham, MA, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2012 of complications from a recent stroke. He was born in Fall River, MA where he spent his childhood, before moving to Somerset, MA. He was educated in the Somerset School System before joining the military in 1957.
George was married to his first wife, Marcia Skinner of West Hartford, CT in 1962 where they then moved to Munich, Germany, to serve their country. George continued to serve his country as he spent a year serving in Vietnam before returning home to his family.
George worked as a self employed contractor after leaving the military and was retired and living in Eastham, MA until his passing. He enjoyed fishing and boating as well as working at his projects around the house. He also enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren as often as he could.
He is survived by his sons, Mark, Matthew and his estranged son, Stephen as well as his grandchildren, Jake and Abigail Bettencourt of Beverly, MA. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Kathy Nicodemus of Pawtucket, RI.
There will be a committal service on Thursday May 10, 2012 at 10:45 AM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. For online guest book please visit www.nickersonfunerals.com.

George, I wish I could have said this to you in person but this will have to do. I loved you very much! You were like a father to me. Thank you so much for being such a great support system when I needed it the most. I will never forget all the things you have done for me and all the things you have taught me! You are an amazing man and will never be forgotten. You will be missed!
