AUBURN: George M. Brainerd, Jr. passed away Saturday May 18th with his loving family at his side. He was born in Clinton, MA on December 2, 1925, a son of the late George M. Brainerd, Sr., and Mary Ellen (Rubery) Brainerd. He later moved to Maine and attended Auburn schools. He was a graduate of Edward Little High School, class of 1944. He joined the Army right out of high school and served under General George Patton in WWII. He also graduated from Auburn Maine School of Commerce. George worked in Bates Mill from the age of 16 and returned there when he returned from the war. On April 17, 1954, George married Mildred Libby and they were able to celebrate their 59th Anniversary this year. He was a member of Ancient Brother's Lodge #178, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Maine Consistory Valley of Portland, 32nd Degree , and the Kora Shrine. He loved to take his grandchildren fishing and following them through the years at all their sporting events. He loved to do woodworking, and was an avid fan of the Red Sox, Bruins and Celtics. George is survived by his wife, Mildred L. Brainerd of Auburn, his three daughters, Judith Cormier and husband Ron of Lewiston, Joanne Dubois of Madison, and Jill Davis and husband Jim of Minot and special niece Elaine Brewer and husband Ken. He also leaves behind his brother Irving as well as 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by 2 brothers, Milton, and Robert, and 2 sisters, Audrey Gould and Mary Ellen Biatek. The family wishes to send a heartfelt thanks to Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice and a special thank you to Kathleen and Michelle. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-7pm at the funeral home. A funeral service will take place on Thursday at 11am also at the funeral home. Committal services and burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Poland along with military honors following the funeral. Those wishing, in lieu of flowers, may make a charitable contribution in George's memory to : The Shriners Hospital For Children 516 Carew St. Springfield, MA 01104-2396.
