George Bryant Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 16, 2014.

George Edward "Ed" Bryant
April 29, 1929 - January 15, 2014

George Edward "Ed" Bryant, 85, a Brunswick resident for nearly 70 years, passed away Wednesday, January 15 at Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton. Funeral Services will be held 2PM Saturday, January 18, 2014 in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Jackie Wharam. Interment will follow in Palmetto Cemetery

Born April 29, 1929 in Greenville, South Carolina to the late Otis Brazil and Laura P. Bryant, Ed moved to Brunswick during WWII where he met and married his wife of 66 years Betty Johnson Bryant. He achieved the rank of Sargent in the National Guard from 1948 to 1952 and began his 30-year career at Hercules Inc. in 1952, where he started as an instrument specialist and became a maintenance foreman.

He served as president of the area chapter of Instrument Society of America and upon retirement established a second career with a computer and fax maintenance business. He was a deacon at Pine Ridge Baptist Church and enjoyed decades of hunting with his buddies as president of the White Swamp Hunting Club.

It's a little known fact that while his son was part of Brunswick High's first graduating class of 1970, Ed Bryant located the legendary BHS Pirate Anchor in the Brunswick River, then organized and oversaw its recovery, refurbishment and installation with the help of several of his Hercules coworkers and friends.

He is survived by his wife Betty, son Steve Bryant and wife Jun-Ann of Acworth, GA, daughter Pam Daniel and husband Jim Daniel of Claxton, GA; four grandchildren, Chris Bryant, Kevin Bryant, Justin Daniel and Christy Dixon; and seven great grand children.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from to 6PM until 8PM at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. www.edomillerandsons.com

Leesa and Bill Clark

The thing bill and I admired about Ed and Betty when we first met them, was the love for God ,family and each other. They did not have to tell us how much they loved each other, you could see it their eyes and the way they smiled at each other,, the story was they were childhood sweethearts, but in Heaven it shall remain! I told miss Betty he was in heaven teaching God how to play Golf, we love your entire family, this family is a one of a kind! Love Bill and Leesa

The Huddle House was Dad's home away from home. He enjoyed the fellowship and when he moved to Claxton he was able to find replacements for his doctors, his pharmacy, his house, his church and the like. The Huddle House crew, however, is one-of-a-kind and irreplaceable. Thank you for your kind words. The next time I'm in Brunswick the coffee's on me.
