George Bush Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 13, 2014.

George E. Bush departed this life for his Heavenly home on June 13, 2014, at the age of 91.

George was born on February 25, 1923 to Easter and George W. Bush of Rule, Texas. George was an Army Veteran of WWII, where he served in the South Pacific 184th Infantry Division as a heavy machine gunner from February 1942 to August 1945. George was awarded the Bronze star and two Purple Hearts during his courageous service to his country.

George married Evelyn Simonds from Fort Worth, Texas on September 20, 1947. They were a devoted couple for 67 years. Their only child, Carla Bush Rowland , was born on April 15, 1955.

George began his career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1946 and moved to Midland, Texas in 1956 as an Exchange Engineer. They joined Crestview Baptist Church in Midland and George was also very active in the Midland Evening Lions Club for over 20 years, where he served with all his heart, in numerous positions from Tail Twister to President. George retired from Southwestern Bell in March of 1985 with 38 years of wonderful friendships and memories.

Dedication to his family was his number one life priority. His joy and pleasure in his child, the daughter he adored, was the center of his life, and her husband Joe Dan was truly the son he never had. During the years of his illness, his wife was an incredibly dedicated caretaker and each time she walked into the room he would light up and announce to everyone – 'that's my wife, isn't she beautiful!' George's smile, which lit up the room, his wonderful sense of humor and his loving heart will be missed forever.

George is survived by his daughter, Carla Bush Rowland and her husband Joe Dan Rowland of Horseshoe Bay, Texas: two grandchildren, Brad Rowland and his wife Shareese, and Todd Rowland and his wife Melissa; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two loving sisters Robbie Jo Vanderburg of Odessa, TX and Geraldine Hailes of Duncan, Ok. George was preceeded in death by two brothers, Charles and Buford, a sister, Laverne and his loving wife Evelyn Bush.

The family extends special gratitude to the caring staff at both Manor Park Rehab in Midland and Granite Mesa in Marble Falls, as well as the tremendous loving assistance from Rae, Regina and Krista.

Graveside Services will be held on June 18 at 10:15am at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Clements Wilcox Funeral Home in Marble Falls.

You have my deepest sympathy. May good memories provide solace for your family during this challenging time and may God provide you with the assurance that you will see your loved one again in Paradise. (John 17:3)

I worked with Mr. Bush in Midland, Tx when I worked in Engineering. He was a very humorous and caring guy. He always spoke of great love for his wife and his daughter Carla. His smile will never be forgotten. Maggie Natividad Ramirez

I will always remember Uncle George laughing. He was a wonderful caring man who was always ready to laugh at a joke or tell one to make others laugh. He and Evelyn were very kind to my Mom, Geraldine during these last years for which she is very grateful. She will miss "Brother George" very much.
