Obituary

SGM George Washington Farley, U.S. Army Retired, of Ozark, passed away Friday, April 5, 2013, at his residence. He was 75 years of age. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, April 8 2013, in the Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brenda Stutz officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with full military honors and Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, April 7, 2013, from 3:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in Ozark. ...

George Washington Farley, son of the late Elijah Melvin and Pinkie Newline Christian Farley, was born December 29, 1937, in Northport, Alabama. SGM Farley served two tours of duty in Vietnam and retired from the U.S. Army after 30 years of service. He was awarded the Silver Star and the Bronze Star medals. He was also a member of the D.A.V. George was a faithful member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Melvin Farley.

Mr. Farley is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce Farley of Ozark; his daughters, Wanda Kay Eby (Mike) of Ozark and Pamela L. Messick (Roy) of Ozark; a sister, Katharine Brown of Tuscaloosa; his grandchildren, Christopher A. Taylor (Samantha), Brett A. Taylor (Mirhanda), Shawn M. Taylor (Vanessa), Jennifer L. Quattlebaum (Mark), Tiffany R. Munn (Ashley); also surviving are seven great-grandchildren.
