George Marion Fleming, age 75, passed away April 1, 2014 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. George was born in Enterprise, Mississippi, on June 18, 1938 to Andrew Jackson Fleming and Sara Lucille Wall Fleming. He attended public schools in Hattiesburg and New Orleans, and graduated from Enterprise High School in 1956. George attended Jones Junior College and received a B.S. degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. George Marion Fleming, age 75, passed away April 1, 2014 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. George was born in Enterprise, Mississippi, on June 18, 1938 to Andrew Jackson Fleming and Sara Lucille Wall Fleming. He attended public schools in Hattiesburg and New Orleans, and graduated from Enterprise High School in 1956. George attended Jones Junior College and received a B.S. degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He graduated with a J.D. degree from the University Of Mississippi School Of Law in 1966. While attending University of Mississippi School of Law, George was a member of Phi Alpha Fraternity and L.Q.C. Lamar International Law Society and Scribes. He was on the Honor Council, Editorial Board Legal Research Exchange, and Graduate Brochure Staff. George was selected for Mississippi Law Journal and the United States Attorney General's Honors Program. George proudly served his country as an officer in the United States Navy where he was Gunnery Officer and ship's Legal Officer aboard the U.S.S. Neosho.George's professional law practice began in 1966 in Clarksdale, MS, where he was in private law practice and later served as Prosecuting Attorney for Coahoma County. After moving to Jackson, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Hinds County District Attorney's office, and later served as General Counsel for Mississippi Public Utilities Staff for over twenty-five years. He represented the Mississippi Public Utilities Staff and Mississippi Public Service Commission in state utility cases and argued cases brought before Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in Washington, D.C. During his tenure as a practicing attorney, George practiced before the Supreme Court of the State of Texas, the United States District Court for Western Tennessee, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi, and the Supreme Court of the United States. George was a member of the Mississippi Bar Association. George was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Smiley, father, Andrew Fleming and brother, Andrew Jackson (Jack) Fleming. George is survived by his loving wife, Carol Pieralisi Fleming, two children, Timothy Stuart Fleming (Ellen), Jonathan Chance Fleming (Lane), step-son, Michael Anthony Pantin, Jr., three grandchildren, Nicholas Fleming, Melanie Fleming, Thomas Fleming, a step-grandson, Patrick Hemsley, a brother, James C. Fleming (Lanell) and many nieces and nephews.George was an avid reader and golfer. He enjoyed watching sports, playing golf with his friends and relaxing at the beach. George will be remembered for his generosity and kindness. He will be missed by the many people who loved him and whose lives he touched.
