George Dewey Hayes, Jr., of Greenville, South Carolina went safely home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 23. Born on September 12, 1926 in a cotton mill village house in Pickens, South Carolina, he was the son of the late George Dewy Hayes, Sr. and Lizzie Mae Hayes. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Billie Geneva Wiles Hayes; a sister: Francis Anders (husband Hovey); a daughter: Deborah Hayes Baird and a son: George David Hayes. George was preceded in death by his brother: William D. Hayes (wife Sue Hayes). He was also preceded in death by his youngest daughter: Cynthia Lynn Trainor (husband Dwight). Others left to...
George Dewey Hayes, Jr., of Greenville, South Carolina went safely home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 23. Born on September 12, 1926 in a cotton mill village house in Pickens, South Carolina, he was the son of the late George Dewy Hayes, Sr. and Lizzie Mae Hayes. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Billie Geneva Wiles Hayes; a sister: Francis Anders (husband Hovey); a daughter: Deborah Hayes Baird and a son: George David Hayes. George was preceded in death by his brother: William D. Hayes (wife Sue Hayes). He was also preceded in death by his youngest daughter: Cynthia Lynn Trainor (husband Dwight). Others left to mourn are his grandchildren: Christopher Michael Hayes, Joe and Ryan Trainor and Adam and Lisa Baird; also his nephews: David Hayes, Steve Hayes and Bruce Anders (wife Renee). He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving in both World War II and Korea as part of a Navy Intelligence group. After the war, he used the GI Bill to earn a degree in Economics from Furman University. His professional career included important positions with Liberty Life Insurance and The Greenville News. He was a loyal member of Laurens Road United Methodist Church and loved the church, its members and the Lord. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Visitation will be Friday at 3:00 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home with funeral service at 4:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel with a private burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park later. www.woodlawn-fh.com Woodlawn Funeral Home, Greenville
