George R. Low 1931 - 2014 Virginia Beach - George Richard Low of Virginia Beach, died on May 11, 2014 surrounded by many family members in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was born May 4, 1931 in Brooklyn (Bay Ridge area), NY. He was the son of the late Harry and Martha Low. He's predeceased by his wife Dorothy, his four brothers John, Ralph, Peter, and John Hansen, and his granddaughter Jennifer Low. – George retired as a Chief Petty officer after 30 plus years in the U.S. Navy. Virginia Beach - George Richard Low of Virginia Beach, died on May 11, 2014 surrounded by many family members in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was born May 4, 1931 in Brooklyn (Bay Ridge area), NY. He was the son of the late Harry and Martha Low. He's predeceased by his wife Dorothy, his four brothers John, Ralph, Peter, and John Hansen, and his granddaughter Jennifer Low. –
George retired as a Chief Petty officer after 30 plus years in the U.S. Navy. He was recongized of receiving a Purple Heart. He was a Company Commander at the U.S. Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois for several years, spent time stationed in Japan and served on multiple naval vessels including the USS Wisconsin and the USS Oklahoma City. He was also a retired Old Dominion University Campus Police Officer. He was an ODU Men's Basketball Season ticket holder for many years.
George was a member of The Sons of Norway in Virginia Beach since 2003 and a longtime member of Bayside Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach.
George is survived by his brother Harry Low and niece Beverly Low of Jefferson, NY and great-granddaughters Sierra Mitchell and Cayman Wade of Richmond, VA. He also leaves behind many other loving family members all over the U.S. including Long Island, Gardiner, and Brooklyn, NY, and Leesburg VA.
He was a loving and compassionate man loved by all who knew him.

The viewing will be Friday, May 16,from 5:00-8:00 pm at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. Funeral ceremony will be held Saturday, May 17, at 2:00 pm at Smith & Williams Funeral Home. Friends may offer condolences at www.kellumfuneralhome.com
