George Henry Miller
Born to John and Hetty Miller in Port Jefferson, N.Y. on December 5, 1937, he died peacefully in Twin Falls, ID on November 6, 2013.
After graduation from Temple University Medical School, he interned in Grand Rapids, MI and served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War in Great Falls, MT. He did his Ob/Gyn residency at the University of Iowa and moved to Twin Falls, ID in 1969. He was in solo practice in Ob/Gyn for the next 30 years and retired in 2000.
George was a compassionate physician who was beloved by his patients. In addition to his work and despite an encounter with lymphoma in his 30's, he embraced life exploring many interests and hobbies. He loved to fly and spent many hours behind the controls of his Cessna 206 investigating back country air strips and scouting new hunting and fishing destinations. In addition he had a meticulously organized shop where he loved woodworking building furniture, most recently several cherished heirlooms for his grandchildren. George blended work and play by writing programs for computerized medical records and estimating fetal weight using ultrasound measurements before these ideas had hit the main stream and just after the IBM PC had hit the market. He also mixed work and play by taking several trips to the glaciers of Alaska and mountains of Nepal as a physician for geologic expeditions. Most of all George loved hanging out with his family at their cabin in the Sawtooth mountains, fishing, hunting, and just breathing the air. People that knew George well will also remember him for his sense of humor and antics that occurred both at work and play. If you spent much time with George there will be a story for sure. Patients remember his showing them a spoofed ultrasound of twins during their prenatal visit and hunting/fishing partners remember him dropping water balloons from his plane onto their stranded fishing boat, or mischievous antics on hunting, fishing, skiing, or Harley Davidson road trips.
He is survived by his wife Ruth Ann of 53 years; his three sons, Kenneth, wife Robin of Edmond, OK; Daniel, wife Jill of Seattle, WA; and Stephen, wife Sarah Hirsch of Boise, ID. He has six grandchildren, Chelsey and Ben, Isaac and Silas, and Kathryn and Elizabeth; and his sister Elsie Krueger of Columbus, Ohio.
George's ashes will be buried in Smiley Creek, ID where he spent countless weekends with his family and lived for the majority of our retirement.
We would like to thank our fellow members and friends of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Highlawn Drive and Willow's neighbors in Twin Falls, and former patients who he considered his friends. We would like to express our sincerest thanks and appreciation to Dr. Pat Desmond who expertly cared for George during his cancer treatments in the early 1970's and over the course of the next 40 years. We would like to thank St. Luke's Hospice for their assistance. His arrangements are under the direction of Trent Stimpson and staff at Reynolds Funeral Chapel, Twin Falls.
There will be an informal memorial open house on Saturday November 9, 2013 at the Miller residence. If you'd like to share stories and memories of George or just say hi to old friends please drop in sometime between 3:00 and 6:00PM. Light appetizers will be served. 3347 Willow Way, Twin Falls, ID.

Ruth Ann,
Dr Miller was amazing man and doctor. I still think of so many things he would say to encourage me as we worked. I'm so privileged to say I knew him. My heart is aching for you and the pain you are feeling. I love you both
