George was born on March 30, 1934 in Mercedes, TX to George Wesley and Onetia Munns. Before his second birthday, his grandparents William J. and Mattie Pearl Munns became his official guardians. They raised George through high school and later college. George attended college at Texas A&M from 1951 to 1955. He was a member of the Cadet Corp all 4 years at A&M. His senior year he was elected counselor of the School of Agriculture and graduated with honors in the Entomology class of 1955. George was always an Aggie. He received a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force and proudly served in the Strategic Air Command as a Navigator in a refueling squadron and was stationed in North Africa, Spain, Alaska and Newfoundland. After his 3 years of active duty, George wasted no time starting his own business, opening in March of 1960. When the Vietnam War began, George entered the active reserves at Ellington AFB. He left the reserves after 5 years with rank of Major, made troop and equipment drops and crossed the Pacific several times. He believed the love of his life, Mary Kathryn Richards, liked the uniform and they were married November 20, 1964. George and Mary were members of Berachah Church of Houston. George was proud of his family and business. He raised bees, collected coins and he and Mary collected beanie babies together for years. They also enjoyed gardening together. George was active in the YMCA, teaching 2 scripture classes at the M.D. Anderson Y and attending men's scripture class at the Foster Family YMCA.
Services to be held at Pat H. Foley on Thursday May 16, 2013 at 10:00 AM with burial to follow at Houston National Cemetery on Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MD Anderson YMCA or Foster Family YMCA of Houston in George's remembrance.
