George Skiniotes Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 18, 2012.

George James Skiniotes passed on with his family by his side on November 16th, 2012, at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born on October 17, 1951, in Joliet, Illinois, to James and Geraldine Skiniotes.

George graduated from Lincoln Way Community High School's class of 1969 in New Lenox, Illinois, where he was known by the nickname "Greek". He married his longtime girlfriend and high school sweetheart, Joanne Batson, in 1971. Their son Jimmy was born in 1975, and they later relocated from New Lenox to Arlington, Texas. In 1982, George and his family moved to Oklahoma City where he opened his independent sales company, Parthenon Sales Corporation, in 1985.

George will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality. Many of his friends and family knew George as an extremely doting grandfather to his two year-old grandson Lucas, who called him "Papou". For several years, George was an avid tournament angler and all-around outdoorsman.

George is survived by his wife of fourty-one years, Joanne Batson; his son Jimmy, daughter Janna and grandson Lucas of Oklahoma City; his mother, Geraldine Skiniotes of New Lenox; three brothers, Steve (Donna) Skiniotes, James Skiniotes and Al (Janet) Skiniotes of New Lenox, Illinois; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was proceeded in death by his father, James George Skiniotes, Sr.

A Trisagion Service will be held in the Hahn-Cook Chapel Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in Oklahoma City on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. under Fr. John Tsaras with interment to follow at Rose Hill Burial Park in Oklahoma City.

The family asks that any gifts or donations be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of George James Skiniotes at the following web link: http://main.acsevents.org/goto/teamgeorge.

Joann,Jimmy and all Skiniotes'
The "Greek". First met George at the Ice skating pond in New Lenox. I had a smart mouth and he corrected me. After that we became best of friends. Our years on L-W Gymnastic team we were the hazing targets of the upper classmen but we stuck together and made our presence known. All the huntin and fishin trips to Wisconsin. It was a hell of a picnic.
Fare thee well my good friend.

Joanne, Jimmy, Janna and Lucas - haven't seen Cousin George in more years than I can count, and we weren't close when younger because he was part of the "OLDER" cousin group that probably didn't want to be bothered with the "little ones" hanging around -- we all know the cousin heirarchy! But family is family and when one hurts, we all hurt. My prayers for you all to find the strength to deal with this enormous loss. He's probably fishing with John and Carol right now and looking forward to tempting all of the heavens with the aroma of Greek lamb roasting on a spit, Uncle Jimmy and our Papou by his side at the crank. Years of memories will comfort you during this difficult time. Love, thoughts and prayers for you all.

GEO- It took (30) Thirty years to come to Okie but I am glad I came. Not only for the time we were together but the LAUGHS and going to Eichon's and laughing some more! Some good times together at the CAR LOT when no one had two nickels to rub together until now when we still don't have two nickels to rub together! If I ever come down there again could you maybe keep the fires down so it won't take four hours to go the last 40 MILES. From one GEO to another SEE YA!
