George M. Slakis, of Bethany OK, died Sunday, January 12, 2014. Born on 9/11/23 in Chicago IL, George attended DeLaSalle High School and Northwestern University. He married Dorothy Alroth on 7/12/1947. They enjoyed three daughters, Kathy, Judy, and Patty. He started employment with Western Electric in 1944 and completed training as a tool and die maker and advanced to second level management assignments. He was transferred to Oklahoma in 1959 to provide coverage for the new OKC location. The family was long time members of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. George's outstanding history of community service includes Junior Achievement, Knights of Columbus, Boy Scoutmaster, Volunteer at Deaconess Hospital, and service on the Weokie Credit Union Board of Directors. For 20 years he enjoyed civil and senior service with the Telephone Pioneers. He especially loved to share his sense of humor and constant supply of jokes with his love of people from children to adult. Preceded in death by Dorothy, Judy, Patty and grandson Stephen, he is survived by daughter Kathy Crews and Mike, granddaughter Jennifer Hartling and Eric, great grandchildren Lucas and Bridget Hartling and Mackenzie Mooney. He also leaves behind close family members in Chicago. Wake service is scheduled for Wednesday, January 15 at 6 pm, Bill Merritt Funeral Service in Bethany. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 2:30 pm at St. James the Greater Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for Catholic Charities or Bethany Children's Center. Arrangements under the direction of Bill Merritt Funeral Service, Bethany, OK.

Kathy, I am so sorry for your loss and my heart hurts for you. I like to think he is having a joyful reunion right now with those who have gone before him and have been waiting for him. I will always remember him for always having a joke to tell. It would always make you laugh, no matter how many times it had been told. Hugs to you my dear friend.
