George P. Williams passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 23, 2014 at home. He was born April 23, 1945 in Lexington, VA to the late H. Joseph Williams, M.D. and Louise P. Williams. George was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, Emory & Henry College, and the University of Delaware. George was Director of Retail Operations for Fleming, Co., Inc. before accepting a position with Lawson Products, Inc. where he was promoted to Zone Manager and then District Manager prior to his retirement. George was a devoted member of Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church, serving in multiple capacities including Cemetery Chairman....
George P. Williams passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 23, 2014 at home. He was born April 23, 1945 in Lexington, VA to the late H. Joseph Williams, M.D. and Louise P. Williams.

George was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, Emory & Henry College, and the University of Delaware. George was Director of Retail Operations for Fleming, Co., Inc. before accepting a position with Lawson Products, Inc. where he was promoted to Zone Manager and then District Manager prior to his retirement.

George was a devoted member of Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church, serving in multiple capacities including Cemetery Chairman. Additionally, he was a past member of Rotary International and the Augusta County School Board. He was honored and greatly respected for his contributions and dedication to the students and school system of Augusta County in his ten years as Chairman.

As a loving husband and father, he shared an exceptional life with his wife and son and was beloved by his family and many, many friends. George never met a stranger, always helping anyone in need. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors and many sports, especially in the company of his son and close friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his aunts, Harriet Williams and Marjorie Tabb (Mrs. Randolph); uncles, Bolling G. Williams and Stuart Pugh; a special brother-in-law, Robert L. Blair, Jr.; and favorite extended family members, James and Charlotte Williams.

He is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Janice B. Williams; their beloved son, Dr. George Stuart Blair Williams and his fiancé, Melissa Lorenzo; two brothers, H. Joseph Williams and James Gaston Blackford Williams; one niece, Elizabeth Williams; two nephews, Joseph Williams and Chapman Williams; special cousins, Louise Stuart Whipple and Stuart Pugh; and extended family members. He will be deeply missed by his family, extended family, and the many people who loved and respected him.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Neal Blair, Steven P. Hartman, Robert D. Thompson, Delmer Botkin, Joe Mader, Ernest Landes, Edward G. Clymore, Sheriff R.D. Fisher, Joe Tunnell, Henry Clabaugh, and his extended family and many friends. The service will be 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Fred A. Holbrook and the Rev. Tully Hunter officiating. Burial will be private.

In lieu of floral memorials, contributions may be made to Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church and the Augusta County Rescue Squad.
