Jerry was born in Omaha, Nebraska on February 10, 1928. After many years of visiting the west coast, Jerry, who was in his early teens, and his family moved to the Los Angeles area. At 17 years old, he joined the Navy and served for two years (1945-1947). Soon after his service, Jerry married his lovely wife Marie (1948), and they started their family four years later-having one son, Michael and two daughters, Stephanie and Gayle.
Jerry and Marie have enjoyed nearly 66 years of marriage together. During this time, Jerry worked as a civil servant for the Navy, contributing to the Naval Research and Development community. In 1974, they moved from Los Angeles to San Diego, CA to continue his work, and in 1989, Jerry retired after 41 years of loyal Federal service.
In the following years, they enjoyed camping with the Good Sam Coastal Roadrunners and their family, traveling to various countries, and visiting with their 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Gerald A. Nelson was a man of kind words with a wonderful smile. He will be forever loved and missed.
