Gerald "Jerry" Francis Harrington 81, died on November 20, 2016. Jerry was a son, brother of 8, husband, father of 5, grandfather of 10, great grandfather of 10 and a great-great grandfather of 2, and a friend to many. A kinder man you will never meet.

Jerry, a former Marine worked as an operator and truck driver for Pulley Freight Lines for 34 years. After retirement he drove a school bus for many years and worked at Brass Armadillo selling antiques. Jerry was a retired member of the Teamster Local 147 Union in Des Moines and also the president of The Puppy Truckers. Jerry played Santa Claus for many people for over 25 years. Jerry loved children and he loved all his children. He loved to garden, work on stained glass, reading and spend time with his family.

Funeral services will be held at the Ankeny Funeral Home 1510 W. 1st street, Ankeny, Iowa 50023, (515) 964-4674, at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 03, 2016. Following the funeral Jerry's ashes will be spread at the scattering garden in the Glendale Cemetery, 4909 University Ave, Des Moines, Iowa 50311.
After that a lunch will be served at Jerry and Shirley's, 4397 NW 6th drive, Des Moines, Iowa, 50313.

Jerry met the love of his life, Shirley Ann Agan. They were married on September 25, 1954. Jerry and Shirley met on the loop in Des Moines, on Grand and Locust Streets, Downtown Des Moines, Iowa. They were married for 62 and ½ years.

Jerry and Shirley had 5 boys, William Gerald Harrington, 61 of Des Moines, Iowa. Steven Michael Harrington, 59 of Lisbon Falls, Maine. David Gabrial Harrington, 56 of Chuluota, Florida. Andrew Joseph Harrington, 54 of Ankeny, Iowa. Timothy Leo Harrington, 53 of Goshen, Arkansas.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Marie (Harlan) Harrington, his in-laws, William and Arwilda (Bond) Agan, two brothers Daniel and William Harrington, and one grandchild Adam Harrington.

Jerry is survived by his wife, all 5 sons, daughter-in-laws, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Jerry is also survived by many other relatives.

Enjoyed working with Jerry at our part-time jobs at Brass Armadillo. He had a great sense of humor. We could read each other's minds. Will remember him fondly.
